Nintendo has issued a new statement about the availability of the Legend of Zelda-themed Switch 2 console. The Nintendo Switch 2 was released last year and has proven to be a resounding success for Nintendo. Switch 2 sales are outpacing the original console and, if its momentum keeps up, it could very well become one of the best-selling video game consoles of all time when it’s all said and done.
Nintendo has released various Switch 2 bundles since the console launched, but it’s stopped short of releasing any limited-edition themed consoles. However, knowing Nintendo’s long history of releasing themed consoles, everyone knew it was just a matter of time. Soon, Nintendo will release its first special edition Switch 2 console, with it themed after The Legend of Zelda franchise in celebration of its 40th anniversary.
Zelda Switch 2 Consoles Are Sold Out, But There is Still Hope
The Switch 2 Zelda console will launch on October 29, but fans may have a hard time getting their hands on one. There was intense demand for the Zelda-themed Switch 2 console, and so, unsurprisingly, the device sold out almost immediately. There are undoubtedly Zelda fans that missed out on securing their pre-order for the specially-themed console, but there is some hope. Nintendo has updated the Zelda Switch 2’s retail listing to note that while the item is currently unavailable, fans should “Check back soon.” Additionally, Polygon has reported seeing a banner that plainly states that Nintendo will “announce when stock is replenished via the Nintendo Store app.” The takeaway is that, even if you missed out on pre-ordering the Zelda-themed Switch 2 console or the other hardware coming as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations, you will likely have another chance to buy one.
The Zelda Switch 2 console isn’t the only new piece of hardware that Nintendo is releasing to celebrate the franchise’s anniversary. A special Zelda-themed Switch 2 Pro controller is also releasing on October 29 with an eye-watering price tag of $99.99, but it has also sold out. Basically all the Zelda 40th anniversary items are gone except for the Switch 2 carrying case, but fans can expect supplies to be replenished, if Nintendo’s comments are any indication. It’s also likely that there will be stock sold in stores completely independent of the pre-orders, though it’s unclear how long these items will be available.
Other hot ticket Zelda items that have sold out include the new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures. These figures are based on how the characters look in the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake, and gift players special masks when used in the new game. Like the other Zelda 40th anniversary items, the amiibo figures are expected to be restocked at some point down the line.
It’s possible that physical copies of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on Switch 2 may be hard to come by when that launches on November 5 as well. For a limited time, the Ocarina of Time remake will have a special cover that could very well attract the attention of scalpers, so fans should keep that in mind, and they may want to at least secure their pre-order of the game just in case.
