The official Destiny 3 petition has reached a huge milestone after almost two months. After the rushed and head-scratching death of Destiny 2, fans of the Destiny IP started to wonder whether there would be another game in the series to follow. According to reports, Bungie doesn’t have any other games in the works, but rather only some incubation projects. Other reports have stated multiple times in the past two months that Destiny 3 is not something that Sony seems to be open to funding, either.
Destiny 2 may have wrapped up, but it still has a decent chunk of players on Steam, and probably much more across the board on console. As of now, Destiny 2 players can solo farm a Raid and get its exclusive Raid Exotic weapon on top of regular guns, T5 armor, and even crafting patterns. New builds are put together by the day, and the game is arguably in the best state it has been in the past few years. Hopefully, there will be a Destiny 3 or some other form of sequel, especially considering the petition, but it remains to be seen.
Destiny 3 Petition Officially Gets 400,000 Signatures

Today, the official Destiny 3 petition reached over 400,000 signatures after stagnating for a while in the ballpark of 380,000. This is a huge achievement because these are unique, verified signatures, so theoretically, it equals over 400,000 distinct people all signing the petition. This number is higher than Destiny 2‘s highest peak player count of 316,000 in February 2023 and the 314,000 player peak when The Final Shape was released.
The Destiny 3 petition surpassed Marathon’s peak player count by a huge margin, too. Marathon‘s peak player count on Steam is over 77,000, but its current 24-hour peak has been sitting at around 5,500 players on Steam for a while. This is unfortunate for Bungie’s only supported game now, and many have been wondering how the extraction shooter will support the company in the wake of Destiny 2‘s unceremonious death. While the milestone of over 400,000 signatures for the D3 petition is huge, it’s not guaranteed to do anything.
If Destiny 3 does not happen due to funding issues and the lack of a proper team after the layoffs, there is a chance the franchise could die. Another option is to release a Destiny 1 port or remake with quality-of-life features that is also playable on PC for the first time. This could be a low-risk investment for Sony, but it could still take years of work before it’s released.

On the other hand, Destiny 3 could be a huge game for Bungie and Sony, if they are willing and/or able to take that gamble. The problem is that, since it is not even in incubation, it could be anywhere between five and eight years before it launches, and that’s if it gets greenlit shortly. As such, fans unfortunately have no guarantees that the petition or being loud will do anything, but there’s hope. It’s hard to ignore petitions with thousands of signatures, and over 400,000 is too high a number to go unnoticed.
