Crimson Desert players should avoid picking up the Fruit of Life when exploring the Abyss. Although it isn’t marked by the game, this item is actually a quest objective further down the line, and Crimson Desert players have warned against grabbing the item to avoid breaking an entire questline. While there is a temporary fix for PC players, console users are out of luck if they have already taken this item until Pearl Abyss fixes the issue.
Crimson Desert is the kind of game that takes hundreds of hours to see everything it has to offer. At this scale, it’s inevitable that there are going to be some bugs found in almost every playthrough. Players have found their share of glitches in Pearl Abyss’s RPG so far, but that hasn’t stopped the game from enjoying massive success in the weeks since its release. Crimson Desert is retaining a large player count, its expansive open world keeping players engaged for a long time.
PSA: Don’t Pick Up Crimson Desert’s Fruit of Life When Exploring the Abyss
A PSA posted to Reddit by user Great-Remove-844 has warned players against taking the Fruit of Life item. They picked it up while completing Crimson Desert‘s Passage of Malice puzzle when exploring the Abyss, only to discover further down the line that the item is an objective to be claimed during the Light of Tariv questline. In its second quest, Fragment of Life, players are tasked with finding the Fruit of Life from the Brothertree. However, players who took it earlier cannot reclaim it, leaving the entire questline broken. Not only does this stop them from completing Fragment of Life, but it also prevents them from starting Reawakened Light, the next quest in the series.
There were multiple players in the thread who claimed they had already taken the Fruit of Life, with most recommending simply reloading their game if they wouldn’t lose too much progress. Others pointed out that there are several instances where Crimson Desert punishes player exploration by accidentally breaking the game, which is particularly frustrating for an open-world game where curiosity should be rewarded.
There is some hope for PC players who have already taken the Fruit of Life in the form of Crimson Desert mods. Users in the thread proposed using a save editor to mark the quest as complete, allowing them to progress the Light of Tariv questline. While this doesn’t exactly give the thrill of completing the quest as normal, it’s definitely a band-aid solution until Pearl Abyss patches the issue. Console players are not so lucky, and they’ll have to wait until the developer issues an official fix in the future.

The good news is that Pearl Abyss has been very quick to release new Crimson Desert updates that fix bugs and add new content. Hopefully, the developer becomes aware of this particular issue and can move fast to patch it going forward. In the meantime, Crimson Desert has no shortage of content for players to explore, so while the Light of Tariv questline may be inaccessible for many, there’s still plenty to do.
