PlayStation’s February 2026 State of Play Just Set a New Record

The most recent State of Play event, which took place on February 12, has become a record-breaking event for PlayStation. February 2026’s jam-packed State of Play went on for well over an hour, giving PlayStation fans updates on some upcoming exclusives, a look at brand-new titles, and much more. Now it has been revealed that the event was the most-watched State of Play ever, surpassing 3.2 million views and comfortably overtaking the previous record by more than 200,000 views.

PlayStation kicked off last week with the announcement that a new State of Play event would be taking place on February 12. Fans speculated from the get-go that this was going to be a huge event, as the company confirmed that it was going to be over 60 minutes long with news, gameplay updates, and announcements from game studios across the globe. PlayStation promised gamers that the February State of Play would also spotlight eye-catching third-party and indie games headed to PS5, along with the latest from teams at PlayStation Studios. While previous events have been criticized for being rather lackluster, PlayStation brought the goods this time around, so it’s no surprise that it was a record-breaking event for the company.

The PlayStation 6 May Not Release Until 2029, According to New Report

A new report from a trusted insider suggests Sony may not release its next-generation console, the PlayStation 6, until 2028 or possibly even 2029.

PlayStation’s February 2026 State of Play Breaks Viewership Records

As spotted by Push Square, the latest State of Play has become PlayStation’s most-watched ever, with over 3.2 million views on its main livestream. This doesn’t take into account any co-streams, which are usually in alternative languages, but the main YouTube livestream now has more than 200,000 views more than the previous record holder, which was June 2025’s State of Play. While it’s an impressive record for PlayStation, the company’s State of Play events still haven’t managed to overtake the popularity of PlayStation Showcases. While similar to State of Play events, a Showcase usually has much bigger reveals and announcements, which is why the biggest one has nearly 5 million views.

With State of Play events only getting bigger and bigger, it looks like PlayStation could be done hosting Showcases. The last PlayStation Showcase was back in 2023, which saw the reveal of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, new PlayStation accessories such as the Portal, and more. Many were left disappointed by the Showcase, but the same can’t be said for the February 2026 State of Play.

Sony kicked things off with the first trailer for Kena: Scars of Kosmora, a sequel to the 2021 hit, Bridge of Spirits. The next 60+ minutes then consisted of updates for upcoming titles such as Saros and Marathon, aswell as the worldwide reveal of brand-new titles, including Project Windless, an untitled John Wick game from Saber Interactive, and God of War: Sons of Sparta, which is a new 2D platforming game available on PlayStation 5 right now.

The show was closed with a huge announcement from Santa Monica Studios, confirming that a remake of the original God of War Trilogy is now in development. However, there were plenty of other titles fans were hoping to see that didn’t make an appearance. The obvious no-show was Marvel’s Wolverine, for which many were hoping to see a new trailer, given its current Fall 2026 release window. There are also rumors that a PS5 version of Starfield is imminent, but insiders claim that an official announcement will be made next month during a dedicated Bethesda showcase.
