A talented Pokemon fan online has shown off their impressive Year of the Horse lucky red envelopes, designed to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year. With the Lunar New Year set to tick over on February 17, this Pokemon fan has taken a classic tradition and applied a fresh twist, with a bunch of horse-based Pokemon featured on the awesome design.
Given Pokemon‘s worldwide popularity, it’s not uncommon to see the franchise celebrate the Lunar New Year in an official capacity. Over the years, there has usually been a Pokemon Go Lunar New Year event, and 2026 is no different. This year’s event runs between February 17 and 21, featuring more wild encounters with Pokemon like Ponyta, Fuecoco, Blitzle, and more, as well as an increased chance to get Lucky Pokemon in trades. Gamers can also pay $1.99 for exclusive Timed Research, including guaranteed encounters with Blitzle and Darumaka.

Pokemon Lucky Red Envelopes Celebrate the Lunar New Year in Style
With the Lunar New Year set to enter the Year of the Horse on February 17, talented Redditor aymehq shared their incredible lucky red envelopes, which have been designed to feature a few of the horse-based Pokemon. The included designs are Ponyta, Rapidash, Glastrier, Mudbray, Blitzle, and Spectrier, which are Pokemon spanning various Generations. The designs look right at home on the red envelopes, which are traditionally handed out during the Lunar New Year as a symbol of good luck. Any Pokemon fan to receive one of these red envelopes would certainly be in good luck.

Fans in the thread were immensely impressed with the creation, with one user saying they would “easily believe this is official merch.” One user lamented the lack of Mudsdale, but it’s sort of represented in its prior evolution, Mudbray. Realistically, putting many more Pokemon on these red envelopes could make them look a little too busy, and aymehq has nailed the balance between including as many designs as possible while not being overwhelming to look at.
The concept of Pokemon red envelope designs has been done before. One year, another talented fan made Pokemon Ekans red envelopes designed to celebrate the Year of the Snake. It’s always cool to see how Pokemon fans use their talents to pay tribute to the franchise in interesting ways. The series has always inspired incredible fan art, with over 1,000 Pokemon designs to choose from, and its growing popularity means it’s unlikely to slow down any time soon.
The Year of the Horse could be a huge one for the Pokemon franchise. The series is set to try its hand at the life simulator genre on March 5 with the release of Pokemon Pokopia. Meanwhile, as the franchise prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary, there remain many rumors about the possibility of Pokemon Generation 10 launching this year. Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but it has been over three years since the release of Generation 9, meaning it’s reaching the point where fans might expect an impending new generation.
