PlayStation 5 gamers needing new co-op games to play will soon have four major new options to choose from. There are a ton of excellent co-op games readily available to play on PlayStation 5, especially when one takes into account the console’s backward compatibility with the PS4 and the classic games available through PS Plus Premium.
PS5 co-op games come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some PS5 co-op games are strictly online-only affairs, while others include support for local co-op, whether that be shared-screen or split-screen. New co-op games are released for the PS5 on a semi-regular basis, and so gamers on the platform frequently have something new to play with their friends.

There are four major new co-op games releasing for the PS5 in August 2026, with Big Walk dropping on August 4, Grounded 2 releasing on August 11, and both Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 and Once Human launching on August 25. The downside is that none of these games have local co-op support, so anyone looking to enjoy the co-op in these titles will have to do so online. Still, online co-op has wide appeal, and for many gamers this won’t be an issue.
For those unfamiliar with the games, Big Walk supports up to 12-player co-op and is about walking around an open world with friends, exploring and solving puzzles. There’s been a decent amount of buzz for Big Walk since its initial reveal three years ago, and the good news is PS5 gamers don’t necessarily even have to purchase the game outright to play it. Big Walk is going to be a free PS Plus game when it launches on August 4, in turn making it a lot easier for players to set up co-op sessions with their friends.
Grounded 2, meanwhile, is the PS5 port of the Xbox-published survival game. Like its predecessor, Grounded 2 is basically a survival game take on Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, with the sequel refining various mechanics and offering quality of life improvements compared to the first game. Survival game fans can easily lose hundreds of hours in a game like Grounded 2, and so genre fans on PS5 should definitely make sure to give it a look come August 11.
Finally, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is a class-based third-person shooter, while Once Human is a free-to-play open world survival game. The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite earned somewhat mixed reviews at the time of its release but has since developed a dedicated fanbase, while Once Human has proven to be quite popular on PC since its launch in 2024. The two games are aiming at completely different audiences and so shouldn’t butt heads too much come August 25.
Between the two games releasing August 25 and the co-op titles launching earlier in the month, August 2026 is shaping up to be a busy one for co-op gamers on PS5, to say the least.
