An open-world survival craft game called Voidtrain is set to launch on the PlayStation 5 on July 30, 2026. Its gameplay has been widely compared to Raft, another popular open-world survival game on the PlayStation 5. However, Voidtrain features a sci-fi setting and, unlike Raft, which takes place mostly on water, unfolds in space.
Voidtrain started its early-access phase back in 2021 on the Epic Games Store, where it has an average user review score of 4.5 and tags such as “highly recommended” and “extremely fun.” It also has an average user review score of Mostly Positive on Steam out of nearly 9,000 ratings. Despite all these achievements, many consider Voidtrain an underrated sci-fi indie game that deserves more attention.
Voidtrain Is Coming to PS5 on July 30
Developed by HypeTrain Digital, Voidtrain is a space-themed sci-fi survival game that supports up to four players in co-op, though it also includes a single-player mode. Players begin with a small wagon on a mysterious railroad in space, where they must travel along the tracks, gather procedurally generated resources and goods, and use them to transform their wagon into a fully automated space train. Voidtrain also features first-person shooter elements, letting players craft retro-futuristic weapons using salvaged materials and collected firearms. Pre-orders for Voidtrain are now live on the PlayStation Store, and the game is set to launch on July 30 for $29.99, or $23.99 for PS Plus subscribers who pre-order it.

From the looks of it, Voidtrain might seem like a fast-paced, combat-heavy survival game where players are constantly on the move. However, that is not an accurate perception. Instead, Voidtrain gives players enough downtime between encounters to relax and focus on building their own unique space train. Many players even consider Voidtrain one of the best survival games with base-building mechanics thanks to the balance between practical builds and cosmetic options it offers.

Voidtrain Won an Award for Being ‘Original’
Before entering its official early-access phase, Voidtrain allowed fans to try a demo and shared several in-game screenshots that received a positive response from fans of open-world survival craft games. Shortly after, in 2020, Voidtrain won the award for Most Original Game at Gamescom. Interestingly, HypeTrain Digital’s indie title was competing against Cyberpunk 2077 in the same category and still managed to secure the win.
By the looks of the PS5 calendar, 2026 seems to be an exciting year for fans of the co-op genre. Aside from Voidtrain, several other games that have found success on PC are also heading to Sony’s console. For instance, Bellwright is a medieval open-world game that recently launched on PS5 and will soon receive an update adding co-op. There is also The Planet Crafter, another popular open-world survival sci-fi game like Voidtrain, which is set to arrive on the console on July 21.
