A new mod for Resident Evil Requiem brings back the infamous merchant, replacing the supply box with his presence. Ever since Capcom revealed the first trailer for Resident Evil Requiem at the Summer Game Fest in 2025, fans were immediately excited to see where the franchise would be headed next. The internet was filled with speculation over who was returning, with many dissecting the trailer to find hidden details and Easter eggs.
After spending months creating new theories about the narrative and characters, Capcom revealed at the 2025 Game Awards that Leon S. Kennedy would return as a playable protagonist in Resident Evil Requiem after a 14-year-long absence from the franchise. Since its release, Resident Evil Requiem has become the fastest-selling game in the franchise, with over 5 million copies sold in just 5 days.
Merchant Returns in Resident Evil Requiem Through a Clever Gameplay Swap
On the official subreddit for Resident Evil Requiem, a Redditor going by the username Dsg1695 posted a short clip of a small interaction between Leon S. Kennedy and the merchant in Resident Evil Requiem. This is possible now thanks to the Merchant – Supply Boxes mod created by fanteeek, which replaces all the supply boxes found throughout Resident Evil Requiem with the fan favorite trader. The mod is available on Nexusmods, which also comes with the iconic “Welcome” sound, a fire stand nearby, and his idle animation. The creator has also mentioned that, if possible, they are planning to add more voice lines and animations for the merchant in Resident Evil Requiem.

When Resident Evil Requiem came out in February, many were excited to see the concept of the supply box. This was a spot in the game where players could trade in their points collected by killing enemies to buy various weapons and upgrades. The gameplay mechanic sounded oddly similar to the merchant from Resident Evil 4, with many wondering why Capcom did not bring him back for Resident Evil Requiem.
Those who have played either the original or the remake of Resident Evil 4 will know how iconic and mysterious his character is in the game. The merchant is notoriously known for setting up shop in various places throughout the main campaign of Resident Evil 4, where the player can approach him to trade in various weapons and trinkets.
