If some recent certifications from Wi-Fi Alliance are to be believed, then a new PlayStation handheld device could be on the way. It’s currently unclear what type of device PlayStation might have in the works, but the strongest theories suggest that Sony might be gearing up to finally announce the long-rumored PlayStation Portal OLED model.
First released in November 2023, the PlayStation Portal is a handheld device that allows users to stream their PlayStation 5 games via Remote Play or (as of November 2025) Sony’s Cloud streaming service. Given that the PlayStation Portal is a device solely dedicated to streaming, it received a bit of a mixed reception from critics and general audiences when it launched, with network connectivity issues causing an unbalanced gameplay experience for many.
A PlayStation Portal OLED Could Be Released Soon
Recently, The Verge spotted new documents from the Wi-Fi Alliance, a global nonprofit association that certifies all manner of electronic devices. These documents appeared to certify two brand-new PlayStation-branded products. No product name is given in the documents, but the two devices are classified under the “Gaming Console/Peripherals” category and have the model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105. The current PlayStation Portal has the model number CFI-Y1001, suggesting that these newly certified PlayStation products could be improved versions of the PS Portal.

Some further evidence that these yet-unannounced devices could be linked to the PlayStation Portal is that they’re said to be running on an Android operating system, just like the base PS Portal model. But while these devices could be new PlayStation Portal models, it’s unclear what improvements they’re bringing to the table, with these documents only really confirming that they’ll still be using 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi.
The Verge theorizes that these newly certified devices could be the long-rumored PlayStation Portal OLED models. Back in January, tech insider KeplerL2 posted on NeoGAF that, following the success of the PlayStation Portal’s base model, a new OLED version was set to be released later in 2026. There’s still been no official word from Sony regarding a new PlayStation Portal OLED model, but this recent Wi-Fi Alliance certification has added some fuel to the fire. There’s also no word yet on how much an OLED PS Portal would cost, but given that the base model had its price raised to $250 in April, it’d likely be upwards of $300–350.
While there’s no way of knowing for definite, it seems likely that these products are separate to the brand-new PlayStation handheld device that was leaked last summer. Still only known as ‘Project Canis’, Sony reportedly has a new standalone PlayStation handheld console in the works, one that allegedly contains an AMD Zen 6c CPU core and RDNA 5 graphics. There’s been no official word from Sony regarding this rumored standalone PlayStation handheld device either.
