The direction of the next God of War title has been on a lot of gamers’ minds, and a new rumor is making bold claims that the long-awaited chapter could feature multiple mythologies and two protagonists. Ragnarok‘s finale has sparked tons of theories and raised plenty of questions about where the series will go next, and these God of War claims could point to some intriguing possibilities.
This isn’t the first piece of God of War news to pop up this past week. Insider Gaming’s Todd Henderson recently said on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast that he heard the next God of War game will be announced this month. Claims and rumors that are this major should be taken with a grain of salt, but the increase in God of War speculation has a lot of fans eager for an update from developer Santa Monica Studio. If Henderson’s statements turn out to be true, then it will be interesting to see if this new batch of God of War rumors hold any weight.

God of War Rumors Claim That the Next Game Will Feature Two Protagonists, Multiple Mythologies, and a Strange Companion
According to a now-deleted Reddit comment from a supposed insider, the next God of War protagonist will be Faye and Tyr. This isn’t the first rumor that has claimed the next God of War game will star Faye as the main character. Tyr being chosen a second protagonist is definitely a surprise for many fans, however. God of War has already played around with dual protagonists by bouncing back and forth between Kratos and Atreus, but Faye and Tyr taking center stage could be a compelling shake-up. Players will also reportedly be accompanied by a “gelatinous cube” companion, which raises even more questions.
The other elephant in the room is the mention of multiple mythologies. Theories that the upcoming chapter will feature different gods outside the Greek and Norse pantheons have been going on for years now. One of the most popular theories is that a God of War game set in Egypt is on the way. This rumor says otherwise, though. According to the leaker, this game will feature Japanese and Mayan mythologies.
A floating sword that is reportedly Merlin was also mentioned in the leaks.
This doesn’t fully discount the Egyptian theories, though. In God of War Ragnarok‘s free Valhalla DLC, Kratos takes on Tyr in multiple fights. In each new encounter, the Norse God of War brandishes a variety of weapons from different cultures. A Japanese katana, a Mesoamerican macuahuitl, and even an Egyptian khopesh are part of his arsenal. The katana and macuahuitl line up with this leaker’s claims, but it’s hard to tell if they are simply jumping on theories that have already been circulating on the internet. If these were blatant hints placed in the Valhalla expansion, then Egyptian mythology might still play a part in the game.

God of War has already had some surprises in store this year. The shadow drop of God of War Sons of Sparta may not have been the perfect game, but it could be an appetizer for a larger reveal on the horizon. Fans eager for a God of War announcement hopefully won’t have to wait much longer.
