Steam Users Have Until March 21 to Snag a Gritty Police Game for Free and Keep It Forever

Steam Users Have Until March 21 to Snag a Gritty Police Game for Free and Keep It Forever

Steam often offers steep discounts via the storefront’s Free to Keep promotions, but that’s not the only way to claim a free game on the platform, with Police Stories now being free for a limited time. Steam users should act quickly because there are two key limitations: the deal expires on March 21 and the number of Steam Keys is limited. Once they are gone, they are gone.

Police Stories is a tactical top-down shooter, playable solo or in co-op, where players must neutralize criminals, rescue civilians, defuse bombs, and follow strict rules of engagement. Each run uniquely generates randomly placed criminals (from petty criminals to terrorists), hostages, and evidence, with players able to command their fellow cop and engage with a tightly tuned Surrender System. Players have access to a plethora of police equipment, from door blast charges and under-the-door cameras, to facilitate its tactical gameplay that is judged in real time by a point system. Players must have enough points to start the next mission, but aggression is not a factor.

How to Claim Police Stories on Steam for Free

In short, Police Stories is basically a top-down shooter version of Ready or Not, and fans can claim it for free as part of Fanatical’s Spring Sale. This offer is obviously meant to encourage fans to check out the other deals on Fanatical’s Spring Sale, but that’s not necessary. There are a few key steps, however. Fans will need to subscribe to the Fanatical email newsletter, link to a valid Steam account that has spent at least $5 USD (or regional equivalent), add the game to the cart, and follow the checkout process. Then, they’ll need to redeem the Key on Steam.

  • Create or Sign Into a Fanatical Account
  • Subscribe to the Fanatical Email Newsletter
  • Link a valid Steam Account
  • Visit Police Stories’ Fanatical page
  • Add the game to your cart and follow the checkout process
  • Once you have your Steam Key, navigate to Steam
  • Navigate to Games –> Activate a Product on Steam
  • Enter the Steam Key Code and download

Because this is a free co-op game for Steam, it’s recommended to have a friend claim the code as well.

Beyond the limited keys and timer, it’s worth noting that there are some regional restrictions, and not everyone will be able to claim this game. However, the reports of it working for someone are much higher than those of it not, so fans should be sure to check if they are interested—and quickly, of course.

More Free Games/Freebies via EGS

While more deals will no doubt pop up for Steam soon, it’s understandable that Police Stories is not for everyone. If that’s the case, it’s worth noting that there is a free game and additional free game content for PC users to claim right now. Every week, the Epic Games Store rotates a selection of free games or freebies for games on Thursday, with the following available beginning on March 19 and lasting until March 26:

The latter is free content for World of Warships, namely the Premium Tier 2 Japanese Destroyer Tachibana and 5 Epic-level permanent camos. Meanwhile, Electrician Simulator is exactly what it says on the box: players are tasked with basic electrical repairs, house wiring, and other tasks to become the best professional in town.

And if none of these work, then it’s recommended to keep an ear out for more news, as free games on Steam often come like a thief in the night: quietly, quickly, and sometimes, unfortunately, gone before you know it.
