Surprise Final Fantasy Tactics Update Has RPG Sickos Hyped

Surprise Final Fantasy Tactics Update Has RPG Sickos Hyped

A surprise update is bringing a new feature to the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster that’s never been in the base game: New Game+. It’s something fans have wanted for decades and it’s now available in The Ivalice Chronicles thanks to a surprise update that’s adding some other small improvements as well. And hardcore players are already plotting how to manipulate the new mode to do something longtime fans have only ever dreamed of.

Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles received update 1.5.0 on June 17 across consoles and PC . It adds a menu to explain the strategy RPG’s extremely esoteric Zodiac Compatibility function and a “remove all equipment” option to speed up swapping out gear. There’s also “Maintain Auto-proceed” and “Ability Incantations Guaranteed” options to streamline additional playthroughs and make AFK grinding easier. But the New Game+ feature is the thing players are really excited about.

It’ll let them play through the entire game again with all of their units and inventory intact. There’s no new difficulty level and enemy levels in story missions won’t scale alongside the player, but this mode will now give the most dedicated fans something more interesting to do when they’re grinding their characters up to level 100. Final Fantasy Tactics players can be fanatics about min-maxxing their characters’ base stats by leveling them up, leveling them back down, and then leveling them back up again (the stat growth remains constant throughout the process).

But New Game+ will also allow fans to do something that was never possible before: multiple farm sets of Genji Armor. It’s the most gear in the game but there’s only one set available to steal from a single boss fight. Repeat playthroughs that preserve progress will let you collect enough Genji Armor to give full sets to everyone in your party. Yes, that would take dozens of hours across a bunch of extra playthroughs, but fans are already getting hype at the prospect of powerful doing exactly that .

“New Game+ was a feature I had been requesting since the very beginning of the remaster project,” the director of the original game, Yasumi Matsuno, wrote on X . “With so many guest characters in the game, I felt that they did not have enough opportunities to shine during a single playthrough. However, due to budget and development resource constraints at the time, the feature was ultimately postponed.”

He added that the team got the greenlight to add the feature thanks to the remaster clearing over 1 million sold. “Although it took time to bring this feature to fruition, I am truly delighted that it has finally become a reality,” he said. Still, as welcome as this update is, fans won’t be sated for long. Hopefully, this isn’t the last surprise update the team has planned. A new difficulty mode, story mission scaling options, and a new bonus dungeon would all be great.
