The Best Soulslike Game of 2023 is Getting an Official Nintendo Switch 2 Version

In a surprising announcement, publisher Neowiz and developer Round8 have confirmed that Lies of P: Complete Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. As Lies of P reviews highly suggest, not only is it the best soulslike game of 2023, but it is also one of the best soulslike games NOT developed by FromSoftware. Challenging FromSoftware in its own genre is not easy, but with Lies of P, it definitely looks it.

Perhaps what’s most interesting about this Lies of P announcement is the slow exodus of soulslike games to the Nintendo Switch 2 console. It’s not necessarily the first platform to come to mind when dealing with the punishing gameplay of the genre, but it’s certainly another challenge to tack on. Prior to this announcement, fans knew about The Duskbloods and Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2, and Wo Long 2: Flames of Ember also confirmed its Switch 2 release in its initial announcement. It’s just a surprise, really, given the more family-friendly games associated with Nintendo.

Lies of P: Complete Edition arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, August 6. It will include the base game, all previously released content, and most notably, the Overture DLC expansion. It was highly praised by fans and critics, on par if not better than the base game, so anyone wanting it on the Nintendo Switch 2 is getting treated to a really well put-together package. On this release, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi said, “We’ve wanted to share our beautiful, dark take on Pinocchio’s story with Nintendo players for a long time and are excited to have them join the passionate and enthusiastic player community that has flocked to the game since its original release in 2023.”

Indeed, it might be new to the Nintendo Switch 2, but it is not new to the Soulslike community. Not only has it managed to cultivate a passionate one around it, all of whom are excited for the next Lies of P game (likely based on the Wizard of Oz), but it has sold over 4 million units globally. In other words, its success has driven this port and helped expand it to others. It’ll release at the cost of $69.99, and it can be pre-ordered in North America and Europe right now. A cartridge-based physical version is also available, plus a bunch of other goodies.

Neowiz has partnered with iam8bit on a special edition of this complete, including all the basics and six Boss Lore Cards. Another iam8bit version includes a unique o-sleeve artwork, as well as a special 3-disc CD set for the base game and a 2-disc CD set for Overture, all with Dan Zollinger artwork. Additional collectibles available for pre-order now through July 13 include the Butterfly Brooch, Amulet Keychain Blind Bag, Boss Rush Pin Set, and a handcrafted Marionette Puppet, each inspired by the world of Lies of P.
