The Heretic Prophet Star Teases a ‘Different Side’ to Naughty Dog for Its Big PS5 Exclusive

Tati Gabrielle, the American actress best known for her roles in the Netflix show You and the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 movie, has teased a “different side” to developer Naughty Dog for its upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Gabrielle, who will star as bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun in Naughty Dog’s next game, says the studio has challenged itself even further than usual in terms of world-building and that she can’t wait for fans to see more of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

After finding fame in the late 90s for creating iconic video game characters such as Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter, Naughty Dog has gone on to become one of PlayStation’s biggest first-party studios. For nearly two decades now, Naughty Dog has focused entirely on its two biggest franchises: The Last of Us and Uncharted. However, that’s finally about to change, as the studio is now gearing up to launch the highly anticipated PS5 exclusive, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. First revealed during The Game Awards 2024 with an epic trailer, Naughty Dog has remained tight-lipped on the project ever since.

Uncharted 4 Was Almost Scrapped Because Naughty Dog Thought It ‘Sucked’

A former Naughty Dog dev reveals that the studio almost canceled Uncharted 4 because higher-ups were not impressed by an early version of the game.

Fans have been dying to learn more about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for nearly two years now, and the game’s star, Tati Gabrielle, says she can’t wait for the community to see more. During a new interview with IGN, Gabrielle was asked what she’s most excited about regarding The Heretic Prophet, to which she said, “Literally all of it.” The actress, who will also be appearing in the sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, went on to say, “I think that it’s such a different side of Naughty Dog, that I think people are going to get really excited for.” She goes on to state that the studio has “challenged themselves” in ways of world-building, which says a lot considering this is the team that brought gamers The Last of Us.

Alongside the likes of other big PS5 exclusives such as Marvel’s Wolverine and the recently released Saros, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is one that fans are eager to get their hands on. Development on the title began shortly after Naughty Dog shipped The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020 and will star Tati Gabrielle, Troy Baker (whose role has yet to be announced), Ashley Scott, Stephen A. Chang, and Tony Dalton, who is best known for his portrayal of Lalo Salamanca in Better Call Saul.

The story focuses on Gabrielle’s character, Jordan A. Mun, a veteran bounty hunter who becomes stranded on the remote planet known as Sempiria. As players look to escape the ancient planet, they will battle against blade-wielding robots and uncover information about the mysteries of Sempiria.

As of writing, there’s no confirmed release date for Naughty Dog’s next game, but a recent report claimed the studio is already crunching and working overtime on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Trusted journalist Jason Schreier recently claimed that Naughty Dog has ordered mandatory overtime for its employees as the studio has reportedly already missed numerous deadlines for the project. To avoid falling behind even further, Naughty Dog was apparently requiring developers to work an additional eight hours per week. Although it was claimed that the mandatory overtime has since come to an end.

While Naughty Dog was finally moving away from The Last of Us and Uncharted for its next release, the studio was also working on a new standalone multiplayer game for The Last of Us alongside Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Despite being highly anticipated and worked on for years, the studio cancelled the project in 2023 as it felt as though it would be unable to support the live-service title long term. Instead, the team is focusing on what it does best: narrative-driven, single-player experiences.
