The Last of Us 2 Player Notices Unique Detail Inside the Museum

A player discovers a subtle detail in The Last of Us Part 2 that seemingly shows the museum once featuring Pluto in its planet exhibit before later removing it after its reclassification. Ever since The Last of Us Part 2 released in 2020, it almost immediately became one of the most divisive games of all time. To this day, the fan base of the franchise is divided into sections, with one absolutely loving The Last of Us Part 2 while the other hating it for its story direction.

While everyone has their own opinion on the narrative of The Last of Us Part 2, one thing the majority of fans can agree on is that it has an incredibly robust gameplay system for any stealth game out there. Even after almost 6 years since the launch of The Last of Us Part 2, gamers are still enjoying the gameplay, thanks to continued updates like the release of No Return mode for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.

A Small Museum Detail in The Last of Us Part 2 Catches Players Off Guard

On the official subReddit for The Last of Us, a user by the name istrx13 posted a screenshot of one of the many subtle environmental detail in The Last of Us Part 2 hidden in plain sight during the museum flashback sequence. The player suggests that the abandoned location once displayed artwork for Pluto alongside the other planets in the Solar System, which was removed after the now-dwarf planet lost its planetary status in 2006.

The removed Pluto display subtly mirrors how real museums updated educational exhibits after Pluto was officially reclassified as a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union. According to the post, the museum wall still appears to contain leftover residue and adhesive marks where Pluto’s display may have originally been placed. The user points out that the stain has a similar shape and placement to the other planet art pieces visible in the exhibit, making the detail appear intentional rather than accidental.

The Redditor mentions replaying The Last of Us Part 2 on PlayStation 5 “for the 500th time” before noticing the detail, which further reinforces how subtle the environmental storytelling element is. They also state that despite being active on The Last of Us subReddit for years, they had never previously seen anyone else discuss the observation.

Several commenters reacted positively to the discovery. One user jokingly replied, “That’s a really awesome detail,” before humorously refusing to “forgive” istrx13 for posting their finding. Another commenter mentioned they had noticed the same detail during their own playthrough and praised Naughty Dog and its environmental storytelling. Others described the find as “so cool” and complimented the player for spotting it.

Even though the title has managed to cause a bit of a stir among fans since its release, it’s impossible to deny that many regard The Last of Us Part 2 as one of the greatest games of all time due to the sheer amount of detail in its gameplay and world design put into the game by the developers. With Naughty Dog now working on Intergalactic, it will be interesting to see what else they can do to innovate in terms of its environmental storytelling.
