It has been a long 13 years since the launch of the first game, but Telltale Games’ The Wolf Among Us 2 is almost here, with new gameplay and story details unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2026. The Wolf Among Us 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games of next year, with fans excited to see the first game’s cliffhanger finally resolved.

Telltale Games’ The Wolf Among Us launched in 2013 to widespread critical acclaim, following up on 2012’s successful The Walking Dead, making Telltale a household name in the narrative adventure genre. Since then, Telltale has released several games under the licenses of massive franchises like Guardians of the Galaxy and Minecraft; however, the studio eventually shut down in 2018 due to declining sales and overextending with popular, expensive IPs, leaving in question the future of The Wolf Among Us 2 after it was announced in 2017. Now it appears that the future of the series is looking bright.

The Wolf Among Us 2 Could Prove Episodic Games Shouldn’t Go Extinct

Episodic games are becoming fewer in number as the 2020s roll on, but The Wolf Among Us 2 could prove the release format still has much to give.

The Wolf Among Us 2 Showcases Gameplay and Story, Impressing Previewers

Summer Game Fest 2026 was a huge one for Telltale’s popular mystery series, with The Wolf Among Us receiving not just one but two announcements for the future of the franchise, and it seems like early previews of the game are starting to reveal tons of details about what’s in store for fans next year. Some of the most notable smaller details about The Wolf Among Us 2 include that it now runs on the ubiquitous Unreal Engine 5, that it should be around 8 to 12 hours long, and that it has shed its episodic format, releasing as a single full game. Going past that, there are some fairly big details about the story, so fans should be warned about some light spoilers. It seems like The Wolf Among Us 2 will introduce new characters, such as a human companion for Bigby named Faye, while the main story turns the tables on Bigby, making him the hunted man in search of a killer. Early impressions for the game have also been incredibly positive so far.

Early previews of The Wolf Among Us 2 indicate that the game looks fantastic and that the old, stiff animations of early Telltale projects are hardly present in the demos showcased at Summer Games Fest. Those that were in attendance at Summer Game Fest state that the slice of the game that they saw was still early, missing dialogue options and voiceover in some parts, but that didn’t take away from how impressive the game currently looks. With The Wolf Among Us 2 slated for a 2027 release, there is likely more to see from the game in the months to come.

While fans wait for the next chapter in Bigby’s story, Telltale has some more in stock to keep fans busy until 2027. The original The Wolf Among Us is getting a remastered version of the first season, set to launch later this year. There is currently no release date set, but Telltale says fans should expect it to be available sometime this holiday. The remaster is reported to include enhanced lighting, animations, and character models, bringing it up to the standards of The Wolf Among Us 2.

As of now, The Wolf Among Us 2 and the remaster of the first game are the only things Telltale is working on following The Walking Dead: The Final Season in 2019. With the relaunch of Telltale, fans are hoping to see the studio return to form, harkening back to the high-quality narrative games they loved in the original The Wolf Among Us era. If current previews are anything to go by, The Wolf Among Us 2 might be just that.
