Xbox Game Pass At Risk of Losing 2 of Its Best Games in September

Xbox Game Pass At Risk of Losing 2 of Its Best Games in September

Xbox Game Pass could lose Hades and Hollow Knight: Silksong in September 2026, as both titles approach the one-year mark since their additions to the service. Even so, there is good reason to believe at least one of them will remain on Xbox Game Pass into October and for the foreseeable future.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was a day-one Xbox Game Pass arrival, originally launching on September 4, 2025. Hades joined the subscription service two weeks later, on September 19. Neither departure has been officially confirmed by Microsoft as of August 8, 2026, but that is to be expected because XGP catalog removals are typically communicated up to two weeks in advance. Both titles nevertheless stand out as some of the highest-profile releases from the September 2025 Xbox Game Pass lineup.

Xbox Game Pass Adds Day-One Game from Pokemon Developer

The first Xbox Game Pass release of August 2026 is officially here, arriving in the form of a day-one title from the Pokemon developer.

Hades More Likely to Leave Xbox Game Pass in September 2026 Than Silksong

As originally noted by Pure Xbox, Hades and Hollow Knight: Silksong are potential September 2026 departures based on the common Game Pass pattern of third-party titles remaining on the service for roughly one year. Although Silksong has been part of the service for longer, it currently appears significantly less likely to depart come next month. That is in no small part because Hollow Knight developer Team Cherry still has no track record of pulling titles from Xbox Game Pass.

Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition Suggests Silksong Won’t Be Leaving Game Pass Anytime Soon

Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Confirms Post-Launch Support is Still Ongoing

Originally released in February 2017, the first Hollow Knight was added to Xbox Game Pass in June 2019, about nine months following the debut of its complete console “Voidheart” edition. Six and a half years later, the Xbox app listed Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition as leaving Game Pass in mid-December 2025. However, the notice was subsequently removed, and the title remains on the service to this day. Given that it has remained in Microsoft’s subscription catalog for more than seven years, Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition provides a strong indication that Silksong could remain on the service beyond its first anniversary.

Much like Team Cherry, Supergiant Games is a longtime Xbox Game Pass partner, though its track record of supporting the service is notably shorter. Of the five titles it has developed to date, three have appeared on Xbox Game Pass. These include Pyre, which joined the service in March 2021 and left in August of the same year, as well as the first two Hades games. Hades 2 joined Xbox Game Pass in April 2026, while its predecessor was added on September 19, 2025. As such, the original Hades appears to be a reasonable candidate for one of the two departure waves expected to hit Microsoft’s content catalog in September 2026.

Looking at the more immediate future, Xbox Game Pass was most recently confirmed to be losing four titles on August 15. The next wave of removals consists of Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand, Menace, Firewatch, and Alien: Fireteam Elite. As another point of comparison for Hades potentially leaving in September 2026, half of the August 15 departures will have spent no more than 12 months on Xbox Game Pass by the time they are removed.
