Xbox Game Pass is Officially Losing One of the Best Games of All Time

Five games are slated to leave Xbox Game Pass this April, including Grand Theft Auto 5. Despite some controversy around a price hike in 2025, Microsoft’s gaming subscription service has had a strong showing lately, with several notable day-one releases in the pipeline for the coming year and rumors of a new lower-priced tier swirling. While there may be a lot to look forward to, Xbox Game Pass subscribers must also brace themselves for the monthly round of titles leaving the platform.

In late March, Microsoft unveiled seven games coming to Xbox Game Pass in April 2026. Those additions include Final Fantasy 4 to continue the trend of FF titles coming to the service each month, and the fan-favorite roguelike Hades 2. More games are sure to follow, as Xbox Game Pass typically expands its library in two waves every month, but everything comes at a cost. Now that the calendar has turned to April, a fresh slate of games has joined the “leaving soon” category, and there are some heavy hitters going away this month.

On the morning of April 2, 2026, Microsoft updated the Xbox Game Pass website to reveal five titles leaving the service at the halfway point this month. The biggest takeaway is the speculation that GTA 5 could leave Xbox Game Pass this April has proved true. Anyone who’s subscribed to the service for a while will know this isn’t the first time this has happened. Rockstar’s massively popular crime sim left the platform in early 2024 before coming back in April 2025. It’s uncertain if that history means fans can expect it to come back to Xbox Game Pass further down the line, but it does make sense for it to leave for a period as its sequel approaches.

Take-Two Interactive has reiterated that Grand Theft Auto 6 is on track for its November 2026 release date, leaving just over half a year before the highly anticipated title finally hits the market. It’s also speculated that Rockstar will ramp up its marketing efforts for the game this Summer, so it’s a fitting time to take GTA 5 off Xbox Game Pass. Removing the old GTA from many gamers’ libraries is an easy way to leave audiences hungry for more right before promoting the new one, so the game’s departure shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

Terra Invicta is a more unusual case. The game is currently only available on PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Premium and Ultimate, so Essential users haven’t been able to play it, but its presence on the platform has been subject to some confusion in the past. In September 2025, Microsoft mistakenly announced Terra Invicta was leaving Xbox Game Pass, issuing a correction that the game is, in fact, staying six days after claiming it was leaving. Now, though, the sci-fi strategy title is departing for real, barring another unexpected change.

My Little Pony: A Zephyr Heights Mystery has the shortest span on Xbox Game Pass of the titles leaving this April, having only come to the platform in January of this year. JRPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes has been available for far longer, being on Xbox game Pass since Spring 2024, but it has a lot of content to explore, so anyone who hasn’t tried it out yet may want to dive into it soon. Rounding out the list of titles saying goodbye to Xbox Game Pass in April 2026 is Annapurna Interactive’s Ashen. Originally an Xbox exclusive, Ashen was one of the best RPGs of 2018, so it’s worth playing over the next couple of weeks before it leaves the platform.
