It’s been confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will feature a new voice actor for main villain Sephiroth. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy that started in 2020 with the release of the first game. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth followed four years later and earned widespread critical acclaim and a Game of the Year nomination. Luckily, the wait for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation won’t be quite as long.
The last big announcement at Summer Game Fest 2026 was the big reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which included a cinematic trailer as well as a gameplay deep dive. It was also confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is looking to release in spring 2027, meaning the game should be out within a year’s time.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Has Recast Sephiroth
When Final Fantasy 7 Revelation hits store shelves, fans will notice that the voice actor for Sephiroth has been changed. Tyler Hoechlin delivered a widely praised Sephiroth performance in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, but he has been replaced by veteran voice actor Travis Willingham for the big finale. Square Enix explained that the Sephiroth recasting was due to scheduling conflicts, but it will likely still be disappointing news for fans who greatly enjoyed Hoechlin’s performance and want a consistent voice for Sephiroth between the three games. Other fans may prefer the change or may not even notice, but it will be interesting to see how Willingham’s performance is received compared to Hoechlin’s when FF7 Revelation launches in 2027.

Willingham’s voice credits span dozens of anime, movies, cartoons, audiobooks, TV shows, and video games. In fact, he’s already appeared in the Final Fantasy franchise before, voicing characters in games like Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, and even Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It may take a bit to get used to hearing a different voice for Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but the character is definitely in good hands.
It’s possible that there will be even more changes to Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation beyond his voice actor. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has controversially made big changes to canon, and one has to imagine that will continue in Revelation to some degree. Still, it’s likely that all the big core moments will remain, even if there are some changes here and there. But ultimately, we won’t know for sure until Final Fantasy 7 Revelation releases, unless Square Enix decides to spill the beans ahead of time.

Now that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has been properly revealed, Square Enix will likely be more forthcoming with details on the game. It’s highly likely that Square Enix will have a presence at Tokyo Game Show in September where it can show off more of the game, and since Revelation was revealed as part of Summer Game Fest, it could potentially pop back up at upcoming Geoff Keighley-hosted shows like Gamescom in August and The Game Awards in December. Of course, it’s also possible Square Enix will go radio silent on Final Fantasy 7 Revelation until we get closer to release, as unlikely as that may be.
