Oblivion Remastered has officially been rated by the ESRB for Nintendo Switch 2, indicating that the planned port is very close to release. Bethesda initially revealed Oblivion Remastered for the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year with a 2026 release window, and it seems as though the launch could be nearing ever-closer.
Oblivion Remastered was one of the biggest gaming surprises of 2025. Almost two decades after the original’s release, Bethesda shadow-dropped Oblivion Remastered with no prior announcement, giving players a full Unreal Engine 5 remaster of the classic RPG. There were some prior leaks that gave those who were paying attention some warning, but from Bethesda’s end, this was a complete shadow-drop, a strategy that proved successful for the game. The remaster itself was largely well-received, with some important additions to modernize the RPG without compromising the original experience.
Shockingly Few Players Have Beaten Oblivion Remaster’s Main Story
Over a year after its release, Oblivion Remaster’s main story has only been beaten by a shockingly low number of players.
Oblivion Remastered ESRB Rating Hints Switch 2 Version Set to Drop Soon
The ESRB rating for Oblivion Remastered was recently updated to include the Nintendo Switch 2 version, which would suggest that its release on the platform is imminent. There usually isn’t too significant a gap between when titles are rated and released, and so it stands to reason that Nintendo Switch 2 gamers don’t have much longer to wait now before they finally get their hands on the popular remaster.

Rumors of Oblivion Remastered‘s Switch 2 port started circulating around the game’s original release, which was only on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It finally confirmed these rumors in February 2026, revealing the port with a release window for this year alongside Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It was part of Bethesda’s push to bring its titles to Nintendo’s flagship home console, so it’s cool to see that the release could finally be in sight.
It remains to be seen how Oblivion Remastered will perform on the Nintendo Switch 2. The game had major performance issues across all platforms, and developer Virtuos did not continue to update the game for very long after its release to resolve this. Hopefully, the time has been taken to ensure the Switch 2 port runs as smoothly as possible, or it could suffer from some of the same problems.

While a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Oblivion Remastered is cool, it isn’t Bethesda’s priority at the moment. The studio remains hard at work on The Elder Scrolls 6, which Xbox CCO Matt Booty recently revealed is coming along well. However, there is still no indication of when gamers can expect to get their hands on the next mainline game in the series, with the wait between it and Skyrim set to extend beyond 15 years in November.
