Pokemon Champions New Update Is Disappointing, No Content Until September

Pokemon Champions New Update Is Disappointing, No Content Until September

Pokemon Champions released its latest content update today, Regulation M-B, but it only includes very few Pokemon and items, and now no more content is planned until September. Pokemon Champions‘ release was disappointing, as the game came out in April this year after seeing a lot of hype for a more approachable, dedicated competitive battling game. Players were unhappy with a limited roster of under 200 pocket monsters and very few items, excluding many of the VGC staples. The game also saw criticism over pricey microtransactions, poor battle passes, and graphics.

Although there have already been multiple tournaments held with Pokemon Champions‘ roster of Pokemon and items so far, the big event is the World Championship this Summer. Many fans expected a larger roster implementation with Regulation M-B, and the addition of multiple VGC items, like Choice Band, Choice Specs, and Assault Vest. However, what was delivered today was very underwhelming for the community, with fans unhappy about the small roster of added Pokemon, items, and Mega Evolutions.

Pokemon Champions Players Are Disappointed with Season 2, But It’s Not All Bad News

Pokemon Champions’ Season M-2 is disappointing fans, but its shortcomings may be fixed very soon, according to official information.

Pokemon Champions’ Regulation M-B Roster and Items, No New Content For Three Months

Pokemon Champions‘ Regulation M-B roster includes just 22 Pokemon, and the game has only added 15 items and 16 Mega Stones with this update. This doesn’t even include all the remaining non-Legendary, non-Mythical Mega Evolutions from Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and most of them have underwhelming abilities. Not only that, but dataminers found information for the next three seasons, and no new content is planned until September 2026 at the very least. Exact times may change, but it looks like the current roster and items won’t be updated for three months or more.

Pokemon Champions launches on mobile today, June 17, alongside the new update. Whether for this reason or the fact that the World Championship looms closer, the roster for this Regulation is much smaller than anticipated. Several Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A and its DLC are still missing, such as Golisopod, Tatsugiri, Mega Absol Z, Mega Lucario Z, Mega Garchomp Z, and more. Some of the new Megas are also underwhelming, like Mega Malamar having bad stats and retaining Contrary as an ability instead of getting a new one. Shell Armor on Mega Scolipede is also middling, as are Tough Claws on Mega Barbaracle and Defiant on Mega Falinks.

Two new abilities have been added in the form of Eelevate and Fire Mane. The former is exclusive to Mega Eelektross, and it combines Levitate (immunity to Ground-type attacks) with a mechanic that boosts the user’s highest stat by one stage every time it gets a KO. Fire Mane, instead, is exclusive to Mega Pyroar, and it boosts the power of Fire moves by 50%. However, Pokemon Champions also nerfs some of the best Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet, with Annihilape losing Final Gambit and not retaining changes to the power of Rage Fist when switching out, and Gholdengo’s Make it Rain becoming 95% accurate instead of 100% and reducing its Special Attack by two stages instead of one. Furthermore, Grimmsnarl lost Thunder Wave and Last Surrender.

Today marks a new era for Pokemon Champions‘ competitive battles, but it could have been much more than what it currently is. The meta will evolve significantly with the addition of new Megas, Life Orb, and Wide Lens, but the current Pokedex is still smaller than that of Pokemon Stadium 2.
