Destiny 2 Bringing Back Playable Strikes Out of The Content Vault

Destiny 2 Bringing Back Playable Strikes Out of The Content Vault

Destiny 2 players will soon be able to play Strikes from the content vault thanks to Project Sunrise. On May 21, Bungie announced that Destiny 2 would get one final update on June 9, and then the company would stop working on it entirely, meaning no more support and the end of the live-service approach. This suddenly left longtime fans without a third space, or at least without one that would get new content and support via updates or hotfixes to address issues.

The reactions have been varied, but the most consistent response has been that fans want Destiny 3, or at least some kind of continuation of the series. An example is how the recent Sony State of Play was dominated by Destiny 3 and ‘No Disc No Buy’ as a form of protest against Sony’s decision to kill Destiny 2 and later also physical discs. Unfortunately, there is no indication that the protests are achieving anything, but even then, it might be somewhere in the ballpark of seven to 10 years before Destiny comes back. Luckily, Project Sunrise is here to help with that.

New Destiny 2 Glitch Makes Farming Powerful T5 Armor Very Easy

Destiny 2 players can now easily farm meta Tier 5 armor sets in under one minute, thanks to a new glitch.

Destiny 2 Project Sunrise to Add Playable Strikes From Content Vault

A Project Sunrise developer by the name of soul (@chnsvw) shared a video on Twitter of the Tree of Probabilities Strike in Destiny 2 being played and tested in full, complete with enemies spawning into the Strike and the final boss’ mechanics. While not the most popular Year 1 Strike in Destiny 2, Tree of Probabilities is a good test because it was subject to some bugs, such as Vex terrain not appearing correctly, the Minotaur boss at the end not being defeated by the actual Strike boss, or the Strike boss bugging out between phases. Project Sunrise is a free-to-play mod created by game developers to make old content playable again, especially considering the game’s death.

Destiny 2 Project Sunrise makes the Leviathan Raid playable again, albeit in exploration mode, alongside all the content vault planets and locations that are no longer in the live version of the game. The video shared by soul is a showcase of what is coming soon to the mod, but the work is currently in its early stages. Still, this is proof of concept that old Strikes can be brought back even after all these years, and they can be fully functional, including enemy spawns and boss mechanics. This is a big step toward game preservation of Destiny 2‘s content vault, and it will be playable once more when it’s ready.

For a franchise that started in 2014, game preservation is vital, especially considering that a lot of content was removed with the launch of Beyond Light. Recently, a 12-year-old cut Destiny camera weapon appeared online via datamining, and it was also confirmed by a former developer to have been scrapped in the early stages of development.

New Steam Game is Stardew Valley With a Unique Project Zomboid Twist

Destiny 2 Project Sunrise was released in August, but the developers have already made a lot of progress with what was conceived as a standalone, private exploration mod. What will be achievable with it remains to be seen, but the whole content vault may come back.
