October 2026 has been a big month for PlayStation Plus Extra, with the gaming giant adding several notable games to its subscription service. While major releases like Mafia: The Old Country and Horizon Forbidden West headline the latest additions, the lineup also includes a brand-new game launching directly into the game catalog. Day-one releases are still relatively uncommon for PS Plus Extra, which puts them on a higher pedestal.
Sony has experimented with day-one PlayStation Plus releases for years, giving smaller titles opportunities to reach a much larger audience immediately. Games like Stray, Sea of Stars, and Dave the Diver have demonstrated how valuable these launches can be, particularly when positive word of mouth helps attract players who might otherwise overlook an indie release. Of course, appearing on PS Plus Extra doesn’t guarantee an overwhelmingly positive reception, and the latest day-one addition has already received hundreds of player ratings.
PS Plus Game Mycopunk Reviews
Mycopunk officially launched on PS5 and PlayStation Plus Extra on October 20, earning a 3.98/5-star rating from 347 PlayStation users within its first day. According to the PlayStation Store, 64% of players awarded the game five stars, while another 7% gave it four stars. Meanwhile, 16% awarded it just one star, suggesting that the game’s early reception has been somewhat divisive despite its generally favorable overall score. The rating is still developing, but it gives subscribers an early indication of how players are responding to new PS Plus Extra games for October 2026.

Developed by Pigeons at Play and published by Devolver Digital, Mycopunk is a co-op looter shooter featuring up to four-player online co-op. Players control a team of robotic misfits employed by the SAXON corporation, taking on missions to eliminate a dangerous fungal infestation spreading across an alien planet. Combat revolves around customizable weapons, destructible enemies, and a grid-based upgrade system that allows players to experiment with different builds.

Although Mycopunk is new to PS5, it has been available on Steam in Early Access since July 2025, giving PC players considerably more time to evaluate the new looter shooter game. Overall, it sits at 91% Very Positive reviews after 3,000 user ratings, putting it about half a point away when converting from percentages to a point system (3.98–>4.5ish). In those reviews, a lot of the character and ggameplay elements receive praise, while some negative reviews have criticized technical crashes, overwhelming enemy encounters, and frustrating progression systems. These Steam reviews provide additional context for the game’s reception, although they don’t necessarily reflect the performance of the new PS5 version.
Mycopunk’s PS Plus addition represents an opportunity to try a relatively well-received indie looter shooter without purchasing it separately (provided they maintain an active subscription). Its early PS5 rating is notably lower than its overall Steam reception, but the console version has only been available for a day, leaving plenty of room for that score to change as more players jump in. Mycopunk is available now through the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game 2026 Catalog, with its full release also available for purchase separately on PS5 and PC.
