2XKO Microtransaction is Ridiculously Overpriced

2XKO Microtransaction is Ridiculously Overpriced

2XKO fans are upset over the ridiculous pricing on one of the game’s cosmetic options, charging more for an animated KO screen than some skins. The League of Legends fighting game stands as one of the biggest new releases from Riot Games since the launch of its globally popular MOBA. Riot Games first announced 2XKO more than half a decade ago in 2019 as “Project L,” with the long-awaited early access release finally coming in October 2025. However, the game’s launch has seen a rocky road.

2XKO originally debuted with all the hype in the world following its October release. Within just two months of its launch, 2XKO was named as a finalist for Best Fighting Game at the 2025 Game Awards, ultimately losing the title to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. However, 2026 got off to a rough start for 2XKO, with Riot Games already rolling out a wave of layoffs for 2XKO‘s development team and inciting concerns that the game may already be dying. The pricing of the game’s cosmetics has also been a major pain point for fans, with one particular microtransaction recently drawing the ire of 2XKO players.

All 2XKO Characters (& How to Unlock Them)

Here’s how to unlock all fighters in Riot Games’ 2XKO, along with a quick look at each champion’s attacks and playstyle.

2XKO Fans Are Not Happy With Cosmetic Pricing

2XKO‘s in-game shop currently features a Finisher screen that has drawn significant criticism from fans. For a limited time, players can purchase the “KO” animated Finisher for 1,500 KO Points, equivalent to approximately $15 USD. 2XKO fan SaikouKiller pointed out on the game’s subreddit that the Finisher’s high price point makes it more expensive to purchase than some of the game’s skins, highlighting the Aureate Warwick skin priced at 1,200 KO Points. The skins also come with more content for players beyond the new look for the character, granting a Chroma, Sticker, and Player Card for purchase.

The KO Finisher’s high price elicited plenty more complaints from other disgruntled fans in the comments of the Reddit post. Many railed against Riot Games’ early disappointment with 2XKO‘s performance with fans, suggesting that the game’s predatory pricing could be a reason for its failures. Fans also drew comparison to rising prices for skins across Riot’s other games, citing competitive shooter Valorant‘s skins as a particularly egregious example. Many fans also agreed that 2XKO has a general problem with high pricing across its other cosmetics as well, with one player pointing out that not even the in-game battle pass is worth the price.

2XKO‘s price problems are not exclusive to the game’s Finishers either, with many feeling that some of the game’s newer skins cost entirely too much. The release of the Arcade skin line for 2XKO earlier this month was criticized heavily by fans for the high pricing, with some individual skins costing as much as $28 for players to pick up the in-game outfits. Riot also debuted an Arcade Megabundle for players to purchase in the shop alongside the skins’ release, with the bundle priced at 7,950 KO Points with players needing to drop at least $70 USD to pick up the skin set.

While 2XKO has seen no shortage of criticism, Riot Games has made attempts to right the ship with new content on the way. An official post from the 2XKO team revealed that, among other updates in the works, Riot Games is working to add a Local Duo Mode to the game, allowing players to queue up together from the same console. The developer also revealed two of the next Champions coming to the 2XKO roster, with League of Legends fan favorites Akali and Senna both making their way to the game. 2XKO fans can only hope that Riot Games’ recent and upcoming moves will help the game to realize its full potential.
