Atomic Heart‘s fourth and final DLC is set to launch on April 16. Protagonist P-3, the Twin, and the rest of their crew have one final mission to put a stop to CHAR-les’ plans for good. Since the DLC was just recently announced, many of the finer details are still under wraps, but the next Atomic Heart chapter is clearly making one thing abundantly clear: there will be plenty of in-your-face action.
When Atomic Heart first hit the scene, it proved to be an interesting blend of first-person shooter and sci-fi concepts. With its alternate history setting that imagines a powerful and technologically advanced Soviet Union, Atomic Heart‘s lore and world-building are some of its main shining points. Such a unique world and tone really set Atomic Heart apart in a genre that can be hard to stand out in. In a similalr vein, every Atomic Heart DLC has expanded this world, and the last chapter, Blood on Crystal, is finally bringing the first game to its end.
Atomic Heart’s Blood on Crystal DLC Promises a Wild Closing Chapter for P-3 and His Comrades
The announcement trailer for the Blood on Crystal expansion is filled with big, bold gunfights and explosions. Atomic Heart‘s ending is coming with a bang, and P-3 has at least one more mystery to dive into while fans wait for the next project from developer Mundfish. New enemies, a fresh location, and wild boss fights are on the menu for Blood on Crystal.

New Enemies Called Polymorphs Bring a Deeper Layer to Combat
This brand-new foe is described as “a new cast of mysterious beings spawned from the horrific experiments of CHAR-les himself.” Atomic Heart‘s enemy types have continued to get more challenging with each chapter, and Polymorphs are being teased as something that’s truly going to put P-3 through the wringer. Naturally, that means there is also going to be more of CHAR-les put in the spotlight. These Polymorphs are one of the evil artificial intelligence’s many experiments that are going to require P-3 to think fast during combat. Polymorphs have merely been teased at the moment, but the official press release for Blood on Crystal confirms that the enemies “will force you to adapt your fighting style on the fly.”
That isn’t where the challenge stops, though. Blood on Crystal is promising “the most insane bosses you can encounter at Facility 3826,” and it’s not like Atomic Heart‘s boss fights were lightweights to begin with. These encounters are usually really fast-paced and require near-perfectly timed dodges, so there’s no telling what horrors await players in this chapter.
One More Trip Into the Depths of Facility 3826
Facility 3826 has been at the center of Atomic Heart‘s lore since the beginning, and players are going to be able to explore an all-new location in the lab. “P-3, the Twin and their comrades must venture deeper in Facility 3826 than ever before to battle CHAR-les and make a last desperate bid to save humanity from total annihilation.” Getting to dive into some of the deepest parts of the now-overrun lab is bound to be both thrilling and terrifying.
This new Facility 3826 location is called the Crystal Complex and is one of the most classified areas.
Blood on Crystal Presents the Perfect Time to Finally Jump Into Atomic Heart
Atomic Heart may not have been one of the most popular games of 2023, but it’s definitely a special sci-fi title that many have seen as underrated. It’s not a perfect game by any means, but it has a lot of creativity and heart put into it that makes for a really unique experience. Atomic Heart is one of the best alternate history games of the past decade, so fans of both that genre and Soviet-era sci-fi should give it a try. What’s even better is that the Blood on Crystal DLC makes now the best time to check out the game if one hasn’t already.
Atomic Heart‘s Blood on Crystal DLC is going to finally tie up the first game’s story. So, players who want a complete story can play the base game and then check out all four expansions in order to get the full picture without having to wait. In addition to the DLC, it’s the best way to get a whole story ahead of the game’s sequel, too. Atomic Heart 2 was announced during Summer Game Fest 2025, and it’s going to be interesting to see how Blood on Crystal plays into that. Based on Atomic Heart 2‘s trailer, P-3 may not be the playable character, so Blood on Crystal could potentially give clues as to why that is. There is only room for speculation right now, but this makes Blood on Crystal the most intriguing DLC thus far.
P-3, the Twin and their comrades must venture deeper in Facility 3826 than ever before to battle CHAR-les and make a last desperate bid to save humanity from total annihilation.
