Following leaks that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time might be receiving a remake, a new rumor is hinting at a limited edition Zelda-themed Switch 2 console. The Switch 2 was released worldwide back on June 5, 2025, with some controversial pricing, yet an overall positive reception. The console has seen various new releases, such as the acclaimed Donkey Kong Bananza and the Zelda spinoff Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. A remake of the monumental Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time may be the latest addition to this roster if the latest leaks are to be believed.
Rumors of an Ocarina of Time remake have been around for years, but the latest comes from Nate the Hate’s huge Nintendo leak. This leak covered Nintendo’s potential Switch 2 plans for 2026 and beyond, proposing a new 3D Mario game for 2027 among other smaller projects. Yet for many, most interesting of all was the mention of an Ocarina of Time remake set for a holiday 2026 release. This project is said not to be a remaster of the existing version, but rather a remake from the ground up that would act as Nintendo’s big holiday game. Past Zelda remasters have seen accessories and merchandise released alongside, such as Skyward Sword HD‘s Joy-Con or the limited-edition Tears of the Kingdom console. Now, a new leak is pointing towards a similar case for the potential Ocarina of Time remake.
Nintendo Reportedly Reducing Switch 2 Production Due to Lower Demand
Reports indicate that Nintendo will be producing less Switch 2 consoles than originally planned as sales dip in the United States.
Leak Predicts a Limited Edition Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Console
Shpeshal Nick, a largely reliable leaker who correctly predicted a major 2025 hardware announcement from Valve, has now stated that a Zelda-themed Switch 2 console will be released. This console’s release will coincide with the proposed Ocarina of Time remake, although the leaker is unsure whether the game will come bundled or not. Though Tears of the Kingdom receiving a limited-edition Switch console in the past, Shpeshal Nick points to that release’s lack of a bundled game as an indicator that the rumored Zelda-themed Switch 2 won’t have anything bundled. The leaker also states that the game has a very big-budget, although all this is just what he’s been told from an inside source. Fans are happy with this information, stating their excitement for the potential remake and console.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is responsible for an everlasting impact on 3D action-adventure games and carries a huge legacy. A remake could revitalize the 28-year-old title, modernizing some of the aspects that didn’t age as gracefully, while still using present-day techniques to expand upon those that did, along with making the title accessible to new Zelda fans. With Nintendo reportedly reducing Switch 2 production due to lower demand, a limited-edition Ocarina of Time version of the Switch 2 console would also likely increase sales of the system, with older Nintendo fans and those who haven’t yet felt inclined to buy the system perhaps taking the plunge.
As much as a remake and limited edition Switch 2 console of Ocarina of Time would be amazing, leaks should always be taken with a pinch of salt until officially announced. Even the most trusted leakers get things wrong or have simply been told outdated information by their sources, with Shpeshal Nick often being incorrect as well. Ocarina of Time is still the highest-rated game on Metacritic, and the community’s everlasting love for it will likely never fade, with projects such as Ocarina of Time‘s recent Sega Dreamcast fan port being evidence of this. This rumored remake could be received as one of the greatest of all time and could lead to other fan-favorite titles in the franchise being given the same treatment, leaving the future of the Zelda series looking bright.
