One Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced player accidentally solves a planned community treasure hunt event early, discovering the location of a highly prized reward. It’s been a highly successful week already for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, having just launched back on July 9, 2026. Fans both new and old have seemingly flocked to Ubisoft’s remake of the popular 2013 game to not only experience it again, but take in all the changes and new content as well.

Even though the game wasn’t as much of a surprise as Ubisoft had hoped thanks to so many leaks occurring prior to its announcement, it clearly didn’t dampen the excitement from players. Hours after launching, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced not only broke a Steam franchise record, hitting a peak player count of over 99,000, but the game also managed to sell over 2 million copies in the first 24 hours across all platforms. Even with the game intended to be a complete experience, Ubisoft certainly has plans to keep players engaged, though one of its plans was spoiled much earlier than intended thanks to a very resourceful player.

Ubisoft has been forced to scrap its plans for a weekend Community Treasure Hunt event, as one player in particular accidentally stumbled across the reward and shared it online, unknowingly derailing the studio’s plans. The reward in particular was intended to be the Explorer Outfit for Edward Kenway, a rare cosmetic that fans were initially surprised to not find within the game itself, believing Ubisoft had cut it out completely. In fact, it was hiding in the Southwestern corner of the map, specifically at the 28 x 292 coordinates for those interested.

Unaware of the significance of the reward from Ubisoft’s perspective, the user known as -Holliday posted their findings on Reddit, excited to not only share the good news with other players, but confirm that it was found by complete accident. Using previous riddles for a past community event, -Holliday admitted that the discovery was done by pure chance after taking a naval contract and found an area that simply piqued their interest in exploring. Seeing air bubbles on the surface, they took advantage of the reworked underwater mechanics of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and accidentally found the rare chest waiting.

While likely disappointed, Ubisoft was in good spirits about the discovery, posting a popular gif that had received an Assassin’s Creed-style makeover and complimenting the community’s impressive treasure hunting skills. The studio also confirmed the treasure was intended to be the ultimate reward for the July 17th Community Treasure Hunt event.

Alongside a whole underwater map to explore for treasure, Ubisoft has also given players opportunities to unlock free rewards as well. To acknowledge some of the major milestones the game has managed to hit, Ubisoft revealed special codes for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced that players can enter to unlock unique rewards. To celebrate the game’s launch, players can unlock a monkey shipmate for the Jackdaw, while 2 million sales unlocked the Crimson Storm Sails and 1500 Animus Keys as a thank you to fans. Players can use the Animus Keys as in-game currency to be spent on cosmetics inside the Exchange shop.
