Bandai Namco may be preparing to shut down an ongoing game from a beloved anime franchise, with Dragon Ball: The Breakers potentially on the way out. Dragon Ball: The Breakers debuted to mixed reception in 2022 as an asymmetrical multiplayer game based on the fan-favorite series.
Dragon Ball has spanned a wide variety of games and genres since the series rose to popularity in the 1990s. Fighting games have been a staple of the beloved franchise, between 2D side-scrolling fighters like Dragon Ball FighterZ and 3D fighters like the Budokai Tenkaichi games. The series has often experimented with RPGs as well, such as the Legacy of Goku games on the Game Boy Advance and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot following the story of the anime. Now, a unique game in the Dragon Ball franchise may not have much longer, as Bandai Namco could be getting ready to discontinue the game.
Bandai Namco May Shut Down Dragon Ball: The Breakers
Bandai Namco’s official material from the recent DreamCon in Texas may signal the end for Dragon Ball: The Breakers. The leaflet includes a section on the Dragon Ball series that lists ongoing titles, featuring its ongoing games, such as the recently revealed Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 and Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle. The information pamphlet notably excludes any mention of Dragon Ball: The Breakers, potentially suggesting that Bandai Namco is no longer prioritizing new content for the multiplayer game. Bandai Namco has not announced Season 10 for The Breakers, with the last major seasonal update arriving in July 2025.

The potential sunsetting of Dragon Ball: The Breakers will mark the end of a rocky road for the asymmetrical action game. The game puts players in an unusual scenario for the franchise, taking control of a team of ordinary people trying to escape from iconic Dragon Ball villains like Frieza and Cell. Breakers takes inspiration from other similar asymmetrical multiplayer games like Dead by Daylight, emphasizing teamwork and taking the spotlight away from the usual high-power battles that are a staple of the series.
The end of Dragon Ball: The Breakers comes as the franchise’s video game branch is preparing to enter a new era. Bandai Namco officially revealed Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 in April 2026, set to follow up the long-running Xenoverse 2, which first debuted in October 2016. Xenoverse 3 will take the franchise far from its typical stories surrounding characters like Goku and Vegeta into Age 1000 of the series’ timeline, more than 200 years after the events of Dragon Ball Z. The game was also teased to feature a distant descendant of Goku in its main cast, with Brett bearing striking similarities to the Dragon Ball protagonist.
Bandai Namco has given fans of Dragon Ball plenty to be excited about between its new and ongoing games. The company currently maintains multiple live-service games based on the series, including top-down MOBA game Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra and mobile games like Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle. The franchise is also getting a brand-new anime adaptation in Fall 2026, with Dragon Ball Super: Beerus airing as a remastered version of the God of Destruction Beerus and Golden Frieza Sagas. Dragon Ball continues to be one of the most recognizable properties in pop culture, and it continues to grow with each passing year.
