Diablo 4 players are calling for Strongholds to be reworked, with many claiming that they haven’t been doing them at all in Lord of Hatred. They have been part of the core Diablo 4 experience since launch, but the sheer volume of them is starting to take a toll on players.

Strongholds in Diablo 4 are cleared to unlock small sections of the map, as well as important waypoints that players can use to fast travel. However, these Strongholds must be cleared every time players create a new character, which is every season for most. And with the recent Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred expansion adding even more Strongholds to the game, the task of re-clearing all of them is more tedious than ever. Some players are more than ready for Blizzard to make a change.

Diablo 4 Fans Are Ready For Strongholds to be Reworked

A recent Reddit thread by user SmokedCurry has raised the issue of “tedious” Strongholds following Lord of Hatred‘s release. According to the user, “the story for each isn’t that compelling,” and this was the first season where they had “dreaded” re-clearing the Strongholds. For many, they are a necessary evil, given their fast-travel points, and the fact that some Diablo 4 Legion events require specific Strongholds to be unlocked. However, the increasing number of them with the expansion means that it can take players hours just to clear what SmokedCurry describes as “painfully slow tasks just so that I could actually start playing the ‘real’ game.”

Many in the thread agreed with the sentiment, and some suggested they’ve simply avoided doing them altogether. It does mean they miss out on certain fast travel waypoints in Diablo 4, but at this point, they no longer feel it’s worth it. One user revealed that they’re sick of them, despite it only being their second season. There are some players, though, who play season after season, and it’s easy to see why they might get bored with Strongholds.

As for a solution, SmokedCurry acknowledged that many players enjoy completing Strongholds in Diablo 4, and they should still be able to do so if they want. However, they think that players who want to skip Strongholds at the start of every season should now have the option to. This issue will only get worse as more content is added to the game, so it would be good for Blizzard to get ahead of the curve and add this option before it becomes a more significant problem. Another potential solution raised in the thread was to make Stronghold completion account-based and allow players to manually reset them if they wanted. This feels like a great answer to the problem that would satisfy just about everyone.

Blizzard has overhauled similar systems in the past, so it’s not afraid to give players the option to skip content they don’t want to do season after season. For example, Diablo 4 Season 11 added the option to reveal the entire map and automatically unlock most Waypoints for those who skipped the campaign. This proved to be an excellent quality-of-life addition, and it seems the sentiment right now is that Blizzard should do the exact same for Strongholds.
