Fortnite Comments on Recent FNCS Disqualifications

Fortnite has admitted that it was a mistake to disqualify pro players for the use of drop calculators, but it seems that it is too late to let them return to the competition. With Fortnite Battle Royale’s rise to popularity, it quickly caught the attention of streamers and professional esports players. So, it’s no surprise that its competitive scene grew extensively within a few years. Nearly every day, there is some sort of high-stakes tournament that allows players to make a name for themselves and earn some real money.

Currently, the Fortnite Championship Series is the most important Fortnite event in the world. Throughout the year, those who have proved themselves and qualified go toe-to-toe against the best in their region and, eventually, if they make it to the next stages, face the best players across the globe in a major LAN event. Major 1 is the first part of the competition, and it includes players from the EU and NAC. It began in mid-April, and finals were scheduled for April 25 and 26. Unfortunately, not everyone who qualified for the Major 1 finals made it, as some duos were DQ’d.

Fortnite Makes Statement on FNCS Disqualifications

On April 25, a few hours prior to the start of the first day of the Major 1 finals, Bugha and several others were disqualified from the FNCS. Supposably, these players were using software that was unauthorized by Epic Games and gave them an unfair advantage in-game. Fans immediately spoke up against this, as there was no explicit information that said the software couldn’t be used, and the players should’ve received a warning before being completely removed from the competition. A few hours after this happened, Epic Games, through the official Fortnite Competitive Twitter account, issued a statement agreeing that the FNCS guidelines weren’t clear enough and could have caused confusion.

After admitting the mistake, Fortnite expunged the disqualification from the record of every player that was affected by the confusion. Unfortunately, it was a little too late. Since these duos did not compete on the day that they were supposed to, Epic Games filled the lobbies for the tournament, and there was no longer space for them in the current tournament. This means that favorite Fortnite streamers, such as Bugha, will not be part of this year’s Fortnite Championship Series.

Even though they were happy to know that the disqualification would not be registered, gamers voiced how displeased they were with Epic Games’s decision to continue the finals without these participants. Bugha and several others immediately asked Epic to restart the Major 1 Finals, but by then, it was already too far along. It would’ve been unfair for those who were already a few hours into the competition to start all over again, as they would’ve been fatigued and their levels of concentration potentially would’ve been much lower, making it much harder for them to get eliminations or secure a Victory Royale in Fortnite.

It is an unfortunate situation, and some players are still hoping that Epic Games will find a solution to this misunderstanding. For now, it has confirmed that it will reword the FNCS terms and conditions in order to ensure that they are clear and no more confusion may stem from how they were written.
