Halo Studios has unfortunately confirmed a few disappointing pieces of Halo: Campaign Evolved news. Ahead of the game’s release on July 28, 2026, the developer has hosted a Halo: Campaign Evolved Q&A session, which has left many gamers frustrated.

Halo: Campaign Evolved Will Require Two PlayStation+ Subscriptions for Couch Co-Op on PS5

Developer Halo Studios hosted a Q&A on Halo Waypoint in an attempt to clarify some areas of uncertainty surrounding Campaign Evolved. While the answers were definitive, they weren’t necessarily what many wanted to hear. The first piece of news is perhaps the least consequential. Sgt. Johnson’s Stanchion, which has been featured in footage of Halo: Campaign Evolved‘s brand-new campaign missions, will not be usable by players. It is described by the developer as being “his personal weapon and not one he likes to share.” There’s also the fact that character customization will not show up in cutscenes. For many, this will actually be a positive, but if a player wants to customize their Master Chief with any of the new skins being added to the game, it’s likely they’ll also want to see them during cutscenes. Not having this could prove to be slightly immersion-breaking.

In more frustrating news, gamers playing in split-screen co-op on Xbox will require Microsoft accounts for both players. This means that guest accounts are no more, as seen in classic Halo titles. This is even worse on PlayStation 5. Not only will both accounts need to be linked to a Microsoft account, but they’ll also require PlayStation Plus. Over the years, couch co-op has been a defining feature of Halo, so seeing any barrier erected in its way (however small) is sure to be disappointing for fans.
