Square Enix has confirmed a new Final Fantasy 10 release to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary. This year marks a major milestone for Final Fantasy 10, and the developer has chosen to celebrate with an exciting new release.
Final Fantasy 10 was released in Japan in July 2001, followed by a North American release in December, and finally launched worldwide in 2002. As the follow-up to Final Fantasy 9, it had a lot to live up to – its predecessor is widely considered to be an RPG masterpiece. But FF10 was met with similar acclaim, continuing what is now looked back upon as a serious hot streak for Square.
Final Fantasy Trading Card Game Gets New FF10 25th Anniversary Collection
Square Enix has now opened the pre-orders for a special collection for the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game. It pays homage to Final Fantasy 10, celebrating its 25th anniversary. All the cards in the collection have an exclusive foil treatment, with the card text presented in Al Bhed, “adding a distinctive touch that captures the spirit and atmosphere of the beloved title.” The cards themselves are a mixture of “fan-favorite cards released throughout FFTCG’s history, as well as high-rarity cards from the booster pack Blissful Eternity.”

The entire card set is priced at $114.99, and Square Enix expects it to launch in January 2027. While the game launched in 2001 in Japan and North America, meaning this release will just miss its 25th anniversary in those regions, it also didn’t release worldwide until 2002, so it’s still technically correct. While the set is definitely on the pricier side, it’s also a collector’s item, so a high price is to be expected.
This new card collection isn’t the only way Square Enix has commemorated Final Fantasy 10‘s 25th anniversary. A short while back, the developer announced Final Fantasy 10: Eternal Calm, a 2-disc analog vinyl set that contains 20 songs from the game’s original soundtrack.
Despite Final Fantasy 10‘s popularity, it doesn’t seem like Square Enix has any intention of remaking the game anytime soon. However, it continues to inspire new games to this day, and was previously noted as one of the JRPGs that inspired Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Even without a modern remake, it has a brilliant legacy.
