New Official Game of Thrones Release is Bringing Back Jon Snow

New Official Game of Thrones Release is Bringing Back Jon Snow

A brand-new Game of Thrones release coming later in 2026 is set to feature fan-favorite character Jon Snow. Jon Snow was a big part of the original Game of Thrones TV series, but he hasn’t been featured in the spin-off shows. That’s no surprise, as both House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms take place many years before Snow was even born.

There have been talks of a Jon Snow spin-off series at HBO, but those plans have reportedly been scrapped. Instead, it seems as though HBO is moving forward with an Arya Stark sequel series. It’s possible Kit Harrington will appear in the Arya Stark show as Jon Snow, but nothing to that effect has been announced. Luckily, there is at least one upcoming Game of Thrones project that we know will feature Jon Snow for sure.

House of the Dragon Can’t Repeat Game of Thrones’ Biggest Mistake

Game of Thrones Season 8 is defined by its mistakes, and one issue is possibly facing House of the Dragon already.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is Bringing Back Jon Snow

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is a real-time strategy game set to launch later this year for PC that will feature Jon Snow as one of its main characters. The cinematic trailer announcing the project features Jon Snow squaring off with the Night King, ultimately being killed by him and resurrected as a wight. Players will be able to turn the tables on the Night King if they so desire, with four factions confirmed for the game so far.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros playable factions include House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and The White Walkers, led by Jon Snow, Jaime Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and The Night King, respectively. Each faction has its own unique look and armies, which should help the game capture the feel of the show’s big-scale battles.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a lot of information shared about Game of Thrones: War for Westeros since its initial reveal. The game was announced at last year’s Summer Game Fest, and new details have been hard to come by ever since. However, the latest official word is that Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is still on track for a 2026 release, and so fans should be able to look forward to playing it later this year. Even if it does wind up getting delayed to 2027, though, fans should still get an update on its progress at some point in the relatively near future.

As a franchise, Game of Thrones is enjoying a comeback. While the last seasons of the original show were not well-received and the first two seasons of House of the Dragon had their ups and downs, House of the Dragon Season 3 has enjoyed near-universal acclaim so far. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which aired on HBO earlier this year, has also earned a great deal of praise. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros releasing in 2026 would be the cherry on top of what has been an incredible year for the franchise, but regardless of when it comes out, it will hopefully keep the franchise’s momentum moving forward. A Game of Thrones RTS just seems like such a natural fit, and it will be exciting to see how the final product turns out.
