A new Pokemon Winds and Waves detail has leaked online. Pokemon Winds and Waves were first revealed last Pokemon Day, with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company releasing an impressive trailer of the Switch 2 exclusive games. The Pokemon Winds and Waves trailer showcased the game world that players will be exploring, as well as the three starter Pokemon that they will get to choose from when the games launch in 2027.
The Pokemon Winds and Waves starter Pokemon are Grass-type Browt, Fire-type Pombon, and Water-type Gecqua. They will no doubt be joined by plenty of other new Pokemon in Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ yet-to-be-named tropical region, but those reveals will have to wait. While Pokemon fans wait anxiously for new Winds and Waves Pokemon reveals and other information, at least one new detail has leaked online.
Pokemon Winds and Waves Starters Lend Credence to Previous Leak About New Evolutions and Gameplay Mechanics
Pokemon Winds and Waves’ reveal of its new starters is making a leak look very plausible, including details about Gen 10 battles and new Pokemon.
Pokemon Winds and Waves Rival
As mentioned by Centro Leaks on Twitter, Pokemon Winds and Waves players will have a rival that is the opposite gender of the protagonist. This may have been assumed by some Pokemon fans, but it hasn’t always been the case. Some Pokemon games feature rivals that are the opposite gender of the player character, but others feature static characters whose gender isn’t dependent on the player character at all. Some fans prefer the former approach and others prefer the latter, but there is plenty of precedent for both throughout the history of the franchise.

Unfortunately, more substantial Pokemon Winds and Waves details are unlikely to come any time soon. Leakers have claimed that there will be no Pokemon Winds and Waves news until 2027, meaning that the next six months will potentially have zero new information on the games. Now, it’s entirely possible that those claims are inaccurate and there will indeed be Pokemon Winds and Waves updates later this year, but fans should keep their expectations in check.
Pokemon Winds and Waves are expected to release in late 2027, and so it does make some sense for Nintendo to hold off on promoting the games too much before next year. Then again, there is still a ton left to be revealed about the games. As previously mentioned, only three new Pokemon have been confirmed. Fans don’t know what the new region is called, what the box art legendaries look like, or anything. Considering how much left there is to learn about Pokemon Winds and Waves, it’s understandable that some fans may be disappointed if no new information is released for the rest of the year.
If there are any more news drops on Pokemon Winds and Waves this year, they would likely happen at Nintendo Direct presentations or Pokemon Presents events. At the time of this writing, no new Pokemon Presents or Nintendo Direct events have been announced, though the latter is rumored to be taking place as early as next week to clue fans in on upcoming Switch 2 games for the second half of 2026.
