Nintendo has issued a new statement about the upcoming Pokemon Winds and Waves, set to launch at some point in 2027 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. Pokemon Winds and Waves are the 10th generation Pokemon games, first revealed during the Pokemon Day celebrations earlier this year. Pokemon Winds and Waves were unveiled with a trailer that showed off the game world, main playable characters, and three new Pokemon.

In the Pokemon Winds and Waves trailer, fans can spot the three new starters they will get to choose from in the games. Grass-type Browt, Fire-type Pombon, and Water-type Gecqua will all be up for grabs when the new games launch next year, though the games will certainly feature many more brand-new Pokemon to catch as well. There haven’t been many official updates in regard to Pokemon Winds and Waves since the trailer dropped, but Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently spoke about the games to investors.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Are Crucial for Switch 2

In an official statement, Furukawa stopped short of providing specific details about Pokemon Winds and Waves, but did describe Pokemon Winds and Waves as a “crucial release” for the Nintendo Switch 2 in its third year. “We intend to do our utmost to maximize its sales,” Furukawa assured Nintendo investors. So while there isn’t much to go in terms of new gameplay details or anything like that, what this statement does do is reassure fans that Pokemon Winds and Waves are still aiming for a 2027 release. In turn, this means that fans should be able to expect to see the games again on Pokemon Day 2027, scheduled for February 27 of next year.

Furukawa also pointed out the success Pokemon has already enjoyed on the Switch and Switch 2. Pokemon Pokopia was released earlier this year to rave reviews and strong sales, and it was preceded by ports of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen to the Switch. The Pokemon franchise is decades old at this point, but it is really showing no signs of slowing down, and so fans can continue to expect brand-new games to be released on a regular basis.

While Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have largely kept quiet about Pokemon Winds and Waves, leakers have revealed all sorts of things that fans can expect to see from the new games. For example, a recent Pokemon Winds and Waves leak revealed three new Pokemon that fans can expect to see in the games. If the leak is to be believed, Charcadet will be getting a new evolution, and two brand-new forms for Oricorio will also be introduced in Winds and Waves.

Leaks are exciting, but it’s safe to say that most fans would prefer to learn more about Pokemon Winds and Waves in an official capacity. Beyond the three starters, no new Pokemon have been officially revealed, and we don’t even know the name of the Generation 10 region yet. As previously stated, more Pokemon Winds and Waves news should come to light on Pokemon Day, so fans should definitely be sure to circle February 27, 2027 on their calendars.
