Pokemon Champions Female Gallade Situation Just Got Even More Confusing

The odd situation with female Gallade appearing in Pokemon Champions has just gotten a little bit stranger, with some fans noticing its gender seems to flip around depending on what part of the game players are looking at. Pokemon Champions has already bewildered gamers by seemingly introducing a female version of Gallade, a Pokemon that shouldn’t be possible, and tutorial screens for the game are just adding to the confusion.

A free-to-start battle strategy game from developer The Pokemon Works featuring traditional turn-based Pokemon battles, Pokemon Champions was released on Nintendo Switch on April 8, with plans for it to come to mobile devices sometime later in 2026. Shortly after its launch, Pokemon Champions‘ development team issued apologies to players for a number of issues they were experiencing. These issues have ranged from actual gameplay problems, like the game having trouble determining turn order when opposing Pokemon Mega Evolve in the same turn, to more minute details, like an inaccurate description of the Leech Seed move.

Pokemon Champions’ Best Pokemon is Locked Behind a $70 Paywall

Pokemon Champions just came out, and the best Pokemon in the game is locked behind a different title that costs you $70 and many hours of your time.

Pokemon Champions’ Female Gallade Just Got Weirder

But the mistake that players seem to be latching onto the most is that Pokemon Champions seems to allow at least one female Gallade to exist. Fans were quick to uncover this clear mistake, as it’s hard to miss, with the Pokemon appearing in a tutorial section that explains the different status effects in the Pokemon franchise and how they work in Pokemon Champions. But the tutorial Gallade’s gender seems to be in flux, as pointed out by Reddit user TheXernDoodles, who noted that while the Gallade in question is listed as female in the animated gameplay section, the tutorial screens still put a male symbol next to its name.

For those not in the know, Gallade is one of the final evolutions of the Ralts line, and one of the only Pokemon in franchise history to be both Psychic and Fighting-type. In all other Pokemon media, only male Kirlia have been able to become a Gallade, while either male or female Kirlia can become Gardevoir.

The existence of a female Gallade, while confusing to longtime Pokemon fans, doesn’t seem like it will be a lasting problem. With the ability to link to the Pokemon Home app, the new game allows players to transfer Pokemon from other games in and out of their Pokemon Champions rosters, though any stat gains they receive from being leveled up in Pokemon Champions won’t come with them if they’re returned to Pokemon Home. Pokemon Champions also features a recruitment system, but Pokemon generated in-game are not eligible to be transferred to Pokemon Home, meaning players wouldn’t have a way to get a female Gallade into any other games, even if they were somehow able to obtain one. Furthermore, Pokemon of incorrect gender will be patched out in future updates, according to information released by the development team.

While many fans have stated they will miss the unique female Gallade and have asked The Pokemon Company to leave her alone, players have also pointed out other errors in recent games in the Pokemon franchise. One such mistake occurred in Pokemon Pokopia, in which keen-eyed fans had caught spider Pokemon Spinarak and Ariados being listed as pure Bug-types instead of also bearing the Poison type. This apparent mistake has already been resolved via a patch, and fans of the female Gallade in Pokrmon Champions should expect to see a similar correction soon.
