Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Player Beats the Elite Four Using Nothing But Baby Pokemon

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Player Beats the Elite Four Using Nothing But Baby Pokemon

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen‘s Elite Four rematch represents one of the biggest challenges in the games, but one player managed to get a win using a team consisting exclusively of Baby Pokemon. Re-released on Nintendo Switch in February, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are remakes of the original Pokemon Game Boy games. The remakes are largely faithful, but include several elements that weren’t introduced until later games.

One major change in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen is the addition of a secondary region to explore. Players are whisked to the Sevii Islands towards the end of the original campaign, and can explore the area more once the Elite Four have been defeated. There’s a lot to do after that, and Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players can even find Raikou, Entei, and Suicune after completing certain tasks in the region.

22 Years Later, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Players Are Just Now Discovering a Double Battle Trick

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players are just learning about a trick that applies to the Double Battles from the Game Boy Advance games.

Beating the Best With Baby Pokemon

In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, the Elite Four are tough enough on their own, but once players have completed some adventures in the Sevii Islands, they get even tougher. Rematches against the Pokemon League feature higher-level Pokemon, and one dedicated player decided to increase that challenge. Reddit user CannedHeatt_ took on the Pokemon League using a team composed exclusively of Baby Pokemon. Their team included Pichu, Cleffa, Magby, Igglybuff, Tyrogue, and Smoochum. Babies were not introduced until Gold and Silver, but Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen include several Pokemon introduced in Gen 2.

Baby Pokemon tend to be very weak, and CannedHeatt_ admits that they “had to over level a bit,” since their team was struggling on the first attempt. They did not reveal the levels or move sets of the Champions that defeated the Elite Four, but players should keep in mind the amount of work it takes if they want to try a similar approach. A team of all Baby Pokemon might sound unusual, but players have found several unique teams to take on the Pokemon League over the last few weeks; a Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen player even beat the Elite Four without catching any Pokemon.

Baby Pokemon can only be used in the rematch against the Elite Four, and not before they’ve been defeated the first time. That’s because they are not available until players reach the Day Care Center on Four Island using the Rainbow Pass. Once there, players can start to breed Pokemon, resulting in the eggs required to hatch them. Pokemon Home support is coming to Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, so players who need the Baby Pokemon for their National Dex can obtain them this way.

Nintendo rarely releases sales numbers for digital games, but it appears that Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen have been a pretty big success since coming to Nintendo Switch. People seem to be connecting with these games in a big way, and it’s interesting to see the unique teams players are coming up with. A big part of Pokemon‘s appeal has always been the idea of creating a unique journey, and choosing a team that others wouldn’t. Not everyone has the determination to beat the Elite Four with a bunch of Baby Pokemon, but it’s great that players can do so if they choose.
