Red Dead Redemption 2 Dev Thought the New Spider Web Mystery “Would Never Be Discovered”

Red Dead Redemption 2 Dev Thought the New Spider Web Mystery “Would Never Be Discovered”

A Red Dead Redemption 2 developer has responded to the ongoing spider web mystery that players are currently embroiled in, claiming they thought it “would never be discovered.” Although Red Dead Redemption 2 has no shortage of mysteries, this latest one has drawn tons of attention from players.

Right at the tail end of 2025, Red Dead Redemption 2‘s spider web mystery gave players something new to delve deep into. Players noticed that spider webs would appear in the game at certain locations at specific times of the day, which, when marked onto the map, would line up perfectly with a spider carving that could be found on a telegraph pole near Cornwall Kerosene & Tar. Players have been scrambling to find out more steps to this mystery, and it’s slowly unraveling as the days pass and gamers become more invested in the solution. More than anything, many were simply shocked to find something truly brand-new in Red Dead Redemption 2, over seven years after its release.

An interesting image comparison between GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2’s animals shows how well the former holds up —with one exception.

Red Dead Redemption 2 QA Tester Calls Spider Web Discovery ‘Absolutely Wild’

Former Rockstar QA Tester Adam Butterworth responded to players who have discovered Red Dead Redemption 2‘s spider web mystery, claiming that it’s “absolutely wild people have found this. I remember hearing about this and thinking it would never be discovered.” So not only has Butterworth confirmed that the mystery is very much real, and not just an incredible series of coincidences, but it’s also so well hidden that even the developers never saw it coming. As it stands, players aren’t quite sure where the mystery will end, but they’re quite sure there are more pieces to be found in this puzzle yet. Given the number of players looking for the solution, this seems destined not to become one of the many unsolved mysteries in the Red Dead Redemption series.

Fans responding to Butterworth were quick to ask about whether players had fully cracked the mystery yet, querying how much more there was left to be discovered. One fan asked, “Can you confirm that there are more yet to be discovered?” Another claimed, “We are starving for information.” Even if there is plenty more to unravel about the spider web mystery yet, it’s not clear whether Butterworth would know everything about it.

I remember hearing about this and thinking it would never be discovered.

That new Red Dead Redemption 2 details of such magnitude are still being discovered over seven years after its release is a testament to the level of detail Rockstar included in its 2018 Western title. The developer seemingly left no stone unturned in its quest to create one of the most detailed game worlds of all time, and evidently, there are still some things that players haven’t discovered yet. Players can find new things even after thousands of hours in Red Dead Redemption 2, which plays a huge role in its replayability and is part of why the game remains so popular after all these years. If even the most experienced players feel as though they can find something new every time they play, there’s always going to be a huge audience.

While players continue to unveil new mysteries in Red Dead Redemption 2, some are wondering whether they’ll ever see RDR3. Rockstar hasn’t really acknowledged the possibility of a sequel, despite the enormous popularity of its predecessor. Still, it feels like a guarantee that Rockstar will return to the Wild West at some point in the future, but when that might be remains a mystery. For now, the developer is focused on launching Grand Theft Auto 6, which has already been delayed multiple times.
