Resident Evil Requiem is Bringing Back Ink Ribbons

Resident Evil Requiem is Bringing Back Ink Ribbons

During the recent Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom confirmed that the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will be bringing back limited-saves through the return of the classic ink ribbon system, but only for those that want it. Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, and it will see both the debut of Grace Ashcroft and the return of fan-favorite character Leon S. Kennedy

The Resident Evil Showcase largely reiterated information that fans already knew about Resident Evil Requiem, but it did have some interesting reveals. For example, it showed off zombies that retain characteristics of their former life, like a custodian that is still cleaning as a zombie and a chef that’s still chopping away at meat despite being undead. Another zombie appeared to be a hotel customer and was mindlessly pushing buttons on an elevator. Players will be able to monitor these zombies and use their routines to avoid confrontations or get the jump on them.

Resident Evil Requiem PS4 Version Possible

It seems as though a PlayStation 4 version of the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem is potentially in the cards.

Everything Revealed at the Resident Evil Showcase

As was previously revealed, Resident Evil Requiem will feature both Grace and Leon as playable characters, with Grace’s segments more traditional survival-horror and Leon’s the action-horror found in titles like Resident Evil 4. This was underlined during the showcase, with Leon shooting zombies, crushing their heads with his boot, killing them with his hatchet, and taking their weapons, including a chainsaw. Grace will have to work with limited ammo and will need to decide whether she should fight or flee any given encounter, but she’s not defenseless. She has a powerful, large caliber revolver called Requiem that has rather destructive power. She will also be able to collect blood from dead zombies to craft weapons like a syringe that can make zombies literally explode.

Grace’s sections in Resident Evil Requiem definitely sound like they will be more challenging than Leon’s, but that’s largely up to the player. Three difficulty settings will be available: Story, which lets players focus on story and puzzles; Standard (Modern), which should effectively be considered “normal” difficulty on par with other RE games; and Standard (Classic), which makes Grace’s sections even more difficult. When playing on Standard (Classic), Grace will have limited saves, determined by the number of ink ribbons she can find in the game. This is an interesting throwback to classic Resident Evil games, and should add a nice challenge for those that want it.

What Else Was Announced at the Resident Evil Showcase

Beyond giving fans their best look at combat, there wasn’t much else revealed at the Resident Evil Showcase. Capcom used it to highlight the Porsche collab (Leon’s car in the game is a Porsche), and also limited edition Hamilton watches. Grace and Leon will both have their own watches in the game, and 2,000 each will be made and sold in real life.

It was also confirmed that there will be concerts to celebrate Resident Evil‘s 30th anniversary in Japan, Europe, and North America, new 1/6 scale figures of the protagonists are going to be up for grabs this fall, amiibo are on the way, the previously-revealed Requiem Switch 2 Pro Controller is coming, and the game will be available on GeForce Now alongside its previously-revealed platforms.

The showcase concluded with a tease about something called “Elpis.” The Elpis mystery is tied to Leon as well as the death of Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace’s mother. Resident Evil Requiem fans will have to wait for the game’s release date on February 27 to find out more.
