Saros’ File Size is Massive

Saros’ File Size is Massive

Fans can prepare for the launch of Saros later this month as the massive file size of the game as well as preload dates have arrived online. Taking inspiration from its previous and massively popular game Returnal, Saros appears to push things even further, adding new layers and evolutions to the “bullet ballet combat” fans have come to expect from Housemarque. With the launch date rapidly approaching, fans now know how much hard drive space they’ll need to free up on their PlayStation 5 consoles.

After revealing Saros over a year ago at a PlayStation State of Play, fans have continued to see new gameplay and other details for Housemarque’s latest third-person shooter. Development appears to have moved fairly smoothly as Saros went gold at the start of April 2026, marking the game as being content complete and giving Housemarque basically a month to continue working on things like a Day-One patch before it ultimately releases.

After Spending 150 Hours in Returnal, Saros Needs to Nail These 2 Features

As a die-hard Returnal fan, these are the two main features that Saros needs to nail to live up to its spiritual predecessor.

Saros Has a Massive File Size

While not official numbers from Sony or Housemarque, the PlayStation Game Size social media account has provided fans with a wealth of new information regarding Saros. The account has proven to be very accurate over the years, so while not official, fans can at least get a good sense of what to expect when Saros officially launches on April 30 for all players, or on April 28 for Deluxe Edition owners.

According to PlayStation Game Size, Saros has a pretty large download size of 83.440 GB, so players will ideally want to have at least 100 GB free in storage, as the game will no doubt have future updates and patches to download which will further increase that number. For those looking to get a jump on the game, preloading will begin on April 21 for Deluxe edition owners, while standard players can start the download process 2 days later on April 23.

In addition to being able to play Saros 48 hours early, Deluxe Edition owners also gain a few additional perks. Players will gain access to 4 sets of armor for lead character Arjun Devraj that are based on other PlayStation Studios IPs. Astra Armor appears to be based on Selene Vassos’ outfit from Housemarque’s previous title Returnal. The Onryo Armor is designed to resemble Atsu’s outfit from Ghost of Yotei, while the Midgard Armor is based on Kratos and his appearance in the recent God of War titles. For any player who preordered either edition of the game, the final armor set is called Hands of the Shore, inspired by Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding series.

Housemarque continues its ability to take advantage of hardware to ensure its games not only pull off some impressive visuals but feel good to play as well. Saros plans to take advantage of the PS5 by offering super-fast loading screens, haptic feedback in the DualSense controller, as well as offering a 3D audio option for headphone users. Saros also looks to further improve on Returnal’s impressive visuals, especially when the combat starts to get intense with the bullet hell-like projectiles flying around on the screen, tasking players with creatively navigating these segments.
