A new multiplayer game titled Saw: Genesis was announced during Summer Game Fest 2026, with Bloober Team in the role of publisher. The studio is best known for psychological horror games such as the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake, Cronos: The New Dawn, and the Layers of Fear franchise. Saw: Genesis marks Bloober Team’s first video game adaptation of the movie franchise, although two official Saw games were previously released in 2009 and 2010 by Zombie Studios.
The previous Saw adaptations were third-person survival horror games centered on a single character trying to survive and escape Jigsaw’s deadly traps. According to Metacritic, the first Saw game received mixed reviews, holding an average score of 59. The sequel fared worse, with an average score of 47. However, Bloober Team’s upcoming title, Saw: Genesis, is taking the franchise in a completely different direction that could become a turning point for the series.

Saw: Genesis Is a 3v1 Multiplayer Horror Game
The first trailer for Saw: Genesis offered a brief look at its gameplay. According to publisher Bloober Team, Saw: Genesis is an asymmetrical multiplayer game in which three players, known as the Accused, must defeat the match’s fourth player, the Judge. The Judge’s goal is to eliminate the Accused using traps and puzzles inspired by the Saw franchise. Saw: Genesis plans to release an early-access version on PC via Steam in Fall 2026. However, fans can sign up for Saw: Genesis‘ upcoming closed alpha on the game’s official website.

Saw: Genesis is being developed by Bloober Team’s co-development studio, Broken Mirror Games, in association with Anshar Studios. Broken Mirror Games has previously worked on Star Trek: Infection and I Hate This Place.
Saw: Genesis takes place nearly a century before the events of the movies and the rise of the Jigsaw killer John Kramer. The story is set in England during the 1920s, meaning the technology, traps, and puzzles are likely to be retro-inspired. Instead of the infamous Jigsaw, Saw: Genesis introduces the Judge as the main antagonist, a World War I veteran scarred by traumatic experiences. Some iconic eerie elements from the franchise, such as its spooky puppet, have also been spotted in Saw: Genesis‘s teaser trailer.
As for the gameplay mechanics, Bloober Team has revealed several key details. Saw: Genesis will feature intense, fast-paced matches with a short duration. The survivors’ gameplay is described as an “escape room experience,” in which the Accused must navigate and escape the Judge’s lethal mazes in one piece. On the game master’s side, gameplay revolves around manipulating procedurally generated maps and traps to eliminate the Accused. The Judge can also summon helpers and access exclusive tools, including hidden corridors, a noise-detection map, hallucinogenic bombs, and paralyzing toxins.
More details are expected to be shared as the game enters its first playtest phase. Although Bloober Team is the game’s publisher, fans have been assured that Saw: Genesis will retain the same “DNA” as the studio’s successful psychological horror games. Bloober Team is also actively involved in the development of a new Star Trek game titled Shadow Frontier, which is scheduled for release sometime in 2027.
