Square Enix Could Be Bringing Final Fantasy 15 To a New Platform

Square Enix may be considering a new port of Final Fantasy 15 to an unexpected platform, bringing the game to Nintendo Switch 2. Final Fantasy 15 has seen multiple versions launch across different platforms, including enhanced re-releases and the mobile-optimized Pocket Edition.

Final Fantasy 15 game was a huge success for Square Enix, quickly becoming one of the biggest launches in the series. The game sold more than 5 million units worldwide within 24 hours of its launch, becoming the fastest-selling title in the franchise at the time. Final Fantasy 15‘s popularity welcomed a plethora of spin-offs for the game, receiving an animated film in Kingsglaive and the Brotherhood anime series. Square Enix also launched Final Fantasy 15: Pocket Edition as a streamlined version of the game that removes the open-world content to make the game function on mobile devices and Nintendo Switch. Now, the full version of Final Fantasy 15 may finally be arriving on a Nintendo platform.

Square Enix is Considering Bringing Final Fantasy 15 to Switch 2

Square Enix was asked about bringing Final Fantasy 15 to Nintendo Switch 2 during the company’s recent shareholder meetings. While the company did not directly confirm a port for the Nintendo platform, a representative for Square Enix shared that bringing FF15 to Switch 2 is “not entirely impossible.” The Square Enix rep noted there are some hardware constraints with Switch 2 that would make “faithfully replicating the exact experience” difficult, but said the company would still consider a port. The segment concluded with the representative intending to pass along the idea of a Final Fantasy 15 port to higher-ups at Square Enix, following multiple recent Final Fantasy ports to Switch 2.

A potential Final Fantasy 15 port would join multiple major recent games in the franchise making their way to the Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix launched the first part of its Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy on Switch 2 in January 2026, with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth released later on June 3. Square Enix also officially revealed Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during Summer Games Fest as the final game in the trilogy, with that the game launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 in early 2027.

Square Enix recently confirmed the long-awaited launch of another major Final Fantasy game planned to hit the Switch 2 in 2026. The company announced the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 14 in April, boasting cross-play and cross-progression with other platforms at launch. Producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that players will be able to access the beta client for free on Nintendo Switch 2 during the first month after its release, with Switch 2 players needing to buy a separate subscription after the beta’s conclusion. The Switch 2 subscription will be discounted for players who are already subscribed to Final Fantasy 14 on other platforms, with the game not requiring Nintendo Switch Online.

Fans of Final Fantasy also got a first look at a brand-new Final Fantasy game during the June Nintendo Direct. Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy Resonance as the franchise’s game in Square Enix’s HD-2D art style, adapting the first story arc of mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Resonance will feature cameos from multiple past characters, with players able to summon the spirits of past protagonists like Terra, Cloud, and Noctis. Between Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 14, and Final Fantasy Resonance, Square Enix looks to have plenty in store for fans throughout the next year.
