It’s easy to forget that Skyrim is The Elder Scrolls 5 sometimes because most anyone is going to simply call it Skyrim, and while that is perhaps the eventual fate of The Elder Scrolls 6, all fans have is the numbered title. Or at least, that’s all fans had after the initial announcement in 2018 until Xbox CEO Asha Sharma teased the official Elder Scrolls 6 title during a recent (and protested over layoffs) visit to Bethesda.

Posting on Twitter, Sharma called the game The Elder Scrolls 6: ********, with the asterisks indicating that the subtitle is 8 characters/letters long. Shortly thereafter, the official Bethesda Game Studios Twitter account responded and said it enjoyed showing the CEO “********,” which is the first recorded reference by Bethesda to the game without saying The Elder Scrolls 6. Hopefully, all of this teasing doesn’t lead to a year of absence, and fans can learn a little more about the game (like its proper title) soon.

Of course, that has not stopped fans from trying to figure out the official subtitle/real name of the new Elder Scrolls games. One of the most common being passed around is Sentinel.

A former Bethesda developer, Michael Kirkbride, has seemingly suggested it is indeed Sentinel, but it’s hard to imagine how he would confirm such information with serious legal issues. There’s also the idea that Sentinel was teased in a Starfield direct, so there’s some strong evidence that could be it.

Most Elder Scrolls games are named after locations, and with TES6 believed to be set in Hammerfell, it’s worth noting that Sentinel is the Capital City. It makes perfect sense, but it could also be a fun swerve by Bethesda since it has the most evidence. Either way, fans are going to be actively looking for Sentinel now.

Starfall is another solid possibility, even if it’s a little close to Bethesda’s sci-fi game Starfield, because Starfall is the bay around Hammerfell and High Rock. Highrock, as one word, could be it, but counting the space, that’s 9 characters. If it moves away from location-based subtitles, however unlikely, then Dominion could be a fun in-between for the Aldmeri Dominion, assuming they play a key role in The Elder Scrolls 6‘s story.

Overall, based on the general vibe on the internet, it seems fans are most interested in the title either being Sentinel or Dominion. Whether that’s the case or if perhaps one of the asterisks is a space (suggesting a two-word, seven-letter name) remains to be seen, perhaps no one has even guessed the name yet, but hopefully this tease turns into something official very soon.
