A Legend of Zelda fan trying to buy the newly released remake of Ocarina of Time ran into an unexpected snag, receiving a different Zelda game instead of the remake. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is one of Nintendo’s biggest releases of the holiday season.
The long-awaited return of the Zelda franchise’s first 3D adventure has already been a smash hit with fans and critics alike. Reviews for Ocarina of Time have been exceedingly high, with the game averaging OpenCritic and Metacritic scores as high as 96 at launch. Fans have called the Ocarina of Time remake one of the best-looking games on the Switch 2 yet, and everything from the game’s stellar rearranged soundtrack to adjustments and improvements to the gameplay has seen high praise across the board. However, one Zelda fan was left waiting longer than expected to finally try out the critically acclaimed game.
Ocarina of Time Fan Gets Unwanted Surprise
A Facebook user posting to a Nintendo Switch 2 fan group shared their complicated story about picking up the Zelda remake. Despite initially pre-ordering Ocarina of Time through Walmart when Nintendo had first announced the remake, the user found that the package they received on release day contained a copy of Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment instead. The Zelda fan shared their struggles in a long back-and-forth with Walmart’s online customer support, eventually being asked to go into the store and resolve the situation with a manager. The Facebook user was also not the only customer at that store to receive the wrong game, with multiple fans being given Age of Imprisonment instead of the Ocarina of Time remake.

Nintendo has already pulled out all the stops to celebrate the release of Ocarina of Time. The game released alongside a special Zelda 40th anniversary edition of the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring green Joy-Cons with a stunning Triforce design. The company also debuted a new Pro Controller for the Switch 2 featuring a similar design, which quickly sold out on Nintendo’s official website. The Ocarina of Time remake is also set to receive its own set of amiibo figures sometime in 2027, debuting new figures of both Young Link and Princess Zelda.
Ocarina of Time brought a wealth of improvements to the classic Zelda game beyond its graphical and audio enhancements. The remake introduced the new Threads of Time feature within its pause menu, allowing players to view a synopsis of the game’s events so far and get guidance on where to go next. Nintendo officially added a jump button to the remake of Ocarina of Time, creating new ways for players to maneuver within the kingdom of Hyrule and different strategies for combat in the game.
The popularity of the Ocarina of Time remake likely bodes well for future remakes from Nintendo. Nintendo executive Nate Bihldorff recently spoke about potential remakes during an interview, suggesting that both remakes and new games “have a place in the Nintendo stable.” The company has often gone back to its classic games on previous platforms, giving games like Link’s Awakening and The Wind Waker new life on more recent consoles. Ocarina of Time‘s success should give Nintendo even more reason to revisit some of the studio’s most beloved titles.
