Space Marine 2 Players Are Not Happy About the New Voice Pack DLC

Space Marine 2 Players Are Not Happy About the New Voice Pack DLC

Although the highly anticipated Patch 12 has finally arrived for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the new update has also led to the game’s first bout of fan backlash over new premium DLC. After launching back in 2024, Space Marine 2 has seen plenty of success both with critics and players alike. Not only that, Saber Interactive has managed to keep the game moving right along with tons of post-launch content additions and continued support through patches and various updates.

In fact, it doesn’t really appear that Space Marine 2 has any intention of slowing down on releasing new updates, even with a new game in the franchise currently in active development. Last year, Saber even confirmed a Year 2 roadmap for Space Marine 2 alongside its plans for what would become Patch 10 for the game’s first anniversary. The roadmap confirmed new content as far as Q2 of 2026, adding new maps, PvP arenas, enemies, and plenty more. One of the more anticipated updates was Patch 12, which contained tons of new content including the Techmarine class.

Space Marine 2’s Voice Pack Sparks Fan Frustration

Space Marine 2‘s Patch 12 added a ton of new content to the game, alongside more fixes and adjustments as well. In addition to the pass, Saber Interactive released its first ever Chapter Voice Pack, a standalone premium purchase that isn’t included in any of the Seasonal Passes available for the game, requiring a $4.99 purchase to unlock. The content includes 450 re-recorded voicelines as well as a unique Space Marine head cosmetic for the Space Marine Chapters of Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Black Templars.

However, following the launch of this DLC pack, fans have seemingly voiced a number of concerns and frustrations with the new content. Outside of frustrations that this wasn’t included in a Season Pass, fans have noticed that equipping a new voiceline, the default one will still play when interacting with objects, presenting a jarring and unexpected switch as the voice changes back and forth during missions. Others have taken issue with the reported 450 re-recorded voicelines, as many feel the total number includes the lines across all languages as there is no banter alongside the previous issue of the default lines being reused during objective interactions. Others appear to be upset that there is no helmet filter option and that some of the voice lines appear to be lifted from the Assault class.

The complaints aren’t just on the game’s Steam Page, which has landed the voice pack DLC into the Very Negative territory, as the Space Marine subreddit has also seen its fair share of posts about the content as well. Images of refund screens have been posted along with fan frustrations over what many refer to as “low effort” and “underwhelming.” While there’s plenty of praise for the new Techmarine class in Space Marine 2, many feel that Saber didn’t do a good enough job managing fan expectations, with some even calling the DLC false advertising.

While it’s not terribly uncommon for games to stumble here and there, making changes that fans may not agree with, Space Marine 2 has largely been able to avoid any controversies or fan frustrations to this point. Space Marine 2 has become such a massive hit for Focus and Saber, not only introducing new fans to the long-running franchise, but also helping to kick off spin-off content like the Space Marine-centric Secret Level episode as well as making protagonist Demetrian Titus part of a dedicated tabletop game. It’s unclear how or if Saber will respond to the backlash, especially now that the studio has largely moved on to development on Space Marine 3.
