Z-A Has New Free Downloads You Can Claim Right Now

Pokemon Legends: Z-A players can obtain Alpha versions of Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile in the game starting today, through a new distribution event from The Pokemon Company. Pokemon Legends: Z-A launched on Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Switch last year, offering a new storyline set in Lumiose City. The game essentially acts as a sequel to Pokemon X and Y, tying up several loose threads from the 2013 3DS games, while also continuing the stories of several side characters.

A new Pokemon Home update is now available, allowing players to bring Pokemon they’ve caught from past games into Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The update also sets the stage for the release of Pokemon Champions on April 8. The free-to-start game will allow people from around the world to compete in turn-based battles, and players will now be able to use the Pokemon they’ve been training in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Pokemon GO’s new GO Pass is starting soon, featuring several rewards to be obtained, including an encounter with a Legendary Pokemon.

How to Get Alpha Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

  • Update Pokemon Home and Pokemon Legends: Z-A to their latest versions
  • Save your game in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
  • Go into Pokemon Home on Switch or Switch 2 and transfer any Pokemon over from Pokemon Legends: Z-A
  • Access Pokemon Home on a mobile device
  • Players will be prompted to accept the Mystery Gifts when the app is launched

To celebrate the new update to Pokemon Home, everyone can now get Alpha versions of Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s three starters: Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile. To do so, users must make sure Pokemon Home and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are updated to their latest versions. Players must then go into their Pokemon Legends: Z-A file and save their progress. After that, Pokemon Home must be accessed on a Switch or Switch 2 console, and the player will now be able to transfer Pokemon freely from Pokemon Legends: Z-A. After just one Pokemon has been moved from the game over to the app, players can save and exit. To get the three Alpha starters, Pokemon Home must then be launched on a mobile device.

As soon as Pokemon Home is launched on mobile, players will be greeted by the app’s mascot, Poke Boy. Poke Boy will prompt them to head over to the Mystery Gift menu, where they’ll be able to claim Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile. Pokemon Home users will then have the option of giving the Pokemon a nickname. Once these steps have all been completed, players will be free to transfer any or all of the three starters from Pokemon Home over to Pokemon Legends: Z-A. All three starters are at level 5 when received, and each one knows a move they can normally only learn in the game via TM: Dazzling Gleam for Chikorita, Wild Charge for Tepig, and Dragon Claw for Totodile. It should be noted that none of these starters can be transferred to any other Pokemon game besides Pokemon Legends: Z-A. That might disappoint some people, but it should be good news for those still looking to get Meganium, Emboar, and Feraligatr’s new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Mystery Gifts have been a nice perk for Pokemon Home users, and the Alpha trio of Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile is just the latest example. Pokemon Home has allowed players to get the Mythical Pokemon Magearna in its original colors for a while now, and that Pokemon can still be obtained via Mystery Gift. However, players must have registered the first 890 Pokemon in Pokemon Home’s National Pokedex to qualify. Following the latest updates, this Magearna can now be added to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, where it can Mega Evolve. Magearna’s standard coloration is already available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but the original colors variant gets its own Pokedex entry when it first goes through Mega Evolution. For players that have yet to complete the National Dex in Pokemon Home, this might be just the incentive needed to finally get it done.
