Battlefield 6 Season 2 Fails to Boost Player Count

Battlefield 6 Season 2 Fails to Boost Player Count

It looks like the long-awaited Season 2 update for Battlefield 6 has failed to bring back a significant number of players in its first 24 hours, as the shooter’s Steam data shows very little movement in concurrent players compared to usual levels. While figures for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Battlefield 6 aren’t made public, Steam charts show that the game peaked at just over 92,000 concurrent users on February 17, the day that EA and Battlefield Studios released Season 2 after a month-long delay.

After a five-year wait following the disastrous launch of Battlefield 2042, EA returned last year with Battlefield 6. The game received largely positive reviews from players and quickly climbed to the top of Steam’s most-played charts, with more than 747,000 players jumping in at launch. While that figure doesn’t take into account PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, console sales seem to have exceeded expectations, as Battlefield 6 became the best-selling game of 2025. Unfortunately, the game has been on a downward spiral ever since, with its player count plummeting by 89% from its all-time peak.

“Not Them Flexing” Call of Duty Fans Think Black Ops 7 Is Mocking Battlefield 6

Call of Duty fans believe Black Ops 7 is mocking its biggest competitor, Battlefield 6, after the EA-published shooter revealed its Season 2 roadmap.

Battlefield 6’s Season 2 Update Hasn’t Impacted Its Player Count

The cause of the sharp drop-off in players will be unique to each individual, but many have expressed disappointment with the game’s post-launch support, technical issues with each update, and the general lack of content. Things got even more disappointing last month when EA announced that it would be delaying Season 2 of Battlefield 6 by an entire month. However, there was a glimmer of hope, as the delay was to allow Battlefield Studios more time to refine and polish the update based on player feedback. But with the new season now live, it doesn’t seem to have made the impact that the developers were likely hoping for. As spotted by Insider Gaming, Battlefield 6 peaked at just 92,281 concurrent players following the launch of Season 2 on February 17, which is a 30,000 increase compared to the day before, but is still less than the 97,000 concurrent players it brought in a few weeks ago, on January 25.

The lack of player resurgence in Season 2 will likely come as a huge disappointment to the game’s developers, as a team member recently commented on Battlefield 6‘s declining player count, saying that everyone is “biting their nails” as they awaited the launch of Season 2. The unnamed developer then said that they were “hoping” the new content update would see players return to the shooter or bring in first-person shooter fans who had yet to check out Battlefield 6. Unfortunately, if Steam’s figures are anything to go by, it looks like the new season hasn’t had the impact Battlefield Studios was hoping it would.

With that being said, there’s no way to know how many players jumped back in on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S yesterday. Plus, Season 2 launched on a weekday, which means the game’s player count could climb even further when the weekend rolls around. However, it feels unlikely that the new update is going to have had much of an impact on consoles, though, as recent data from Circana revealed that Battlefield 6 was being thrashed by Call of Duty on consoles for the week ending January 17. While it remained the third most-played game on Steam, Battlefield 6 didn’t even crack the top ten on PlayStation and Xbox.

While Black Ops 7‘s Season 2 update added tons of maps, weapons, modes, and more for players to check out, Battlefield 6‘s single map and handful of new weapons for its most recent update is expected to be the main reason why players aren’t rushing to jump into Season 2. Following the reveal of Battlefield 6‘s Season 2 roadmap, players blasted the developer, with some saying the studio is “dropping the ball” and others saying the amount of content is not “nearly enough” for how long the season was delayed.
