It’s 2026, Yet A New Neopets Game is Officially Coming to the PS5

Buckle up, retro gaming fans, because one of the oldest and most iconic family-friendly browser-based games, Neopets, is making an unexpected resurgence with a surprise debut on consoles decades after players were first introduced to the world of caring for adorable creatures and earning much-needed in-game money through addictive mini-games. Neopets: Mega Mini Games Collection – The Neopian Arcade Odyssey will bring a slate of the familiar Neopets mini-games to consoles for the first time ever, with both digital and physical releases for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch dropping on March 26. It may be 2026, but 1999 is calling with an offer infused with so much nostalgia that OG PC gamers may not be able to refuse.

For those either too old or too young to remember the absolute frenzy that surrounded Neopets after it launched in 1999, the browser-based game saw players taking care of fantastical creatures, the titular Neopets, while also offering a world map with different lands to explore, various quests and mini-games to play, and even an in-game marketplace where fans could buy and sell goods. Unlike popular MMOs of the early 2000s, Neopets focused on individualized gameplay but still gave players the opportunity to interact with others through Neopet battle arenas, online forum boards, and the previously mentioned market trading. Blending the pet care of Tamagotchi with the online exploration of games like World of Warcraft, Neopets cemented a legacy for itself as one of the first major online games for younger players at the turn of the new millennium. Now, three decades later, Neopets is making an unprecedented comeback.

An adorable new roguelike video game is already sparking enthusiastic comparisons to Nintendo’s beloved Paper Mario franchise.

Neopets Mini-Games are Finally Coming to Consoles

Neopets: Mega Mini Games Collection – The Neopian Arcade Odyssey will bring 25 of the classic mini-games from the Neopets browser game to consoles on March 26, and players will not only have the opportunity to enjoy some of these games on PlayStation and Nintendo systems for the first time but also to grab physical copies of Neopets to add to their gaming collections. The collection will include one brand-new game, Starlight Symphony, as well as three different game modes: Arcade, Challenge, and Endless. By completing each mini-game, players will unlock in-game stickers, trophies, and Petpet-themed rewards. Players can opt in to connect their NeoPass account and share their high scores on the official Neopets website. Each mini-game has been optimized for controllers, wide-screen displays, and 60 FPS gameplay, with four of the games also featuring never-before-offered local multiplayer.

Some of the classic Neopets games in Neopets: Mega Mini Games Collection – The Neopian Arcade Odyssey include Hasee Bounce, Kass Basher, Meerca Chase, Faerie Bubbles, Snowball Fight, Ice Cream Machine, and Snow Muncher, among other beloved hits. The game will feature support for nine different languages, split-screen for local multiplayer, and even family sharing options. According to the official listing on the Nintendo eShop, Neopets: Mega Mini Games Collection – The Neopian Arcade Odyssey will retail for $24.99 digitally, with a physical edition price unknown at the time of writing.

Audiences have continued to voice an appreciation for nostalgia-fueled re-releases, remasters, and remakes, with video game comebacks already dominating the 2020s. A browser-based game like Neopets still going strong online to the point of being able to offer a brand-new console release and even expansions with more Neopets trading card sets decades after their original debut could be yet another sign that gamers are hungry for fresh touches of old-school experiences. Neopets may not hold the same position in the cultural zeitgeist that it did 30 years ago, but the game has sustained a dedicated community and public familiarity that has spanned multiple generations, which is certainly a milestone in and of itself. Players can relive the glory days of the PC gaming hallmark when Neopets: Mega Mini Games Collection – The Neopian Arcade Odyssey releases March 26 for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
