Monster Hunter Wilds’ Latest Leak Could Be a Blessing—or a Curse

Monster Hunter Wilds’ Latest Leak Could Be a Blessing—or a Curse

If recent leaks are true, then Monster Hunter Wilds could be coming to the Switch 2 sometime in the future. The prospect is no doubt exciting for Nintendo fans, but they should also be cautious. Monster Hunter Wilds was one of the best-selling games of 2025, but it has also suffered from a long list of performance issues since launch. As such, it’s hard to imagine it running smoothly on the Switch 2.

Since the Switch 2 arrived last summer, the Nintendo console has received some great ports like Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The console is capable of running some pretty big games, but with Capcom struggling to bring Monster Hunter Wilds to player standards on stronger hardware, a Switch 2 port brings up some complicated feelings. Monster Hunter Wilds on the Switch 2 seems like a perfect match, but its release in early 2025 definitely didn’t start the game off on the right foot.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ Launch State Casts a Shadow Over the Switch 2’s Potential

There have been improvements made to Monster Hunter Wilds since its early days, but players still face plenty of performance problems, especially when it comes to PC. Monster Hunter Wilds‘ recent Title Update 4 was one of the biggest updates that the game has seen yet, for example, and hopefully it paves the way for the leaked Switch 2 port.

Not only did Title Update 4 make performance improvements, but it also added new monsters, like Gogmazios, new support hunters, and new missions.

List of Monster Hunter Wilds’ Performance Issues at Launch

  • Incredibly frequent stuttering and frame rate drops
  • Low-quality textures
  • CPU bottleneck issues
  • Inaccuracies with in-game VRAM meter
  • Using apps like Discord would often lead to major drops in performance.
  • Crashes and various glitches would often occur, depending on the GPU driver.

Such a port could be a good thing since optimizing for the Switch 2 could ultimately be beneficial for every platform, but others may expect it to be a disaster waiting to happen. Caution, instead of hype, is advisable given that A.) it’s a leak and B.) the port could possibly be problematic. There’s no way to know for sure, with neither Nintendo nor Capcom confirming that a Switch 2 port is in the works. That said, Monster Hunter fans will hopefully be getting news soon.

A Fresh Nintendo Direct Could Be Around the Corner

February has frequently been the month that Nintendo picks for its first Direct event of the year. Considering this year marks Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary and The Legend of Zelda‘s 40th anniversary, Nintendo will potentially have some exciting announcements planned in the near future, and an announcement for Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2 would add an extra dose of excitement.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ Rough Launch Doesn’t Mean That the Switch 2 Port Will Face the Same Fate

After the improvements made by Title Update 4, Capcom is taking steps in the right direction. There’s still a way to go, but whatever the next Monster Hunter Wilds update has in store is hopefully going to correct at least most of the remaining issues. It’s worth noting that Capcom hasn’t revealed when the next update will be, though it could possibly come alongside a Switch 2 port if the leak is accurate.

Monster Hunter and the Switch Have Already Been Proven to Be a Strong Match

  • Monster Hunter Rise launched for the original Switch in March 2021

Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch is viewed favorably, especially when it comes to its multiplayer. The leaks about Monster Hunter Wilds‘ Switch 2 port showed evidence of local co-op support, which could repeat that success. That’s already proof that the Monster Hunter formula is a great match for Nintendo’s Switch consoles, but it’s all ultimately riding on the game’s launch performance.

According to the leaks, Monster Hunter Wilds‘ Switch 2 port may support up to four players on local co-op.

The Switch 2 Might Be Monster Hunter Wilds’ Chance at Redemption, But Only Time Will Tell

The leaks are intriguing, but until Capcom and Nintendo make an official announcement, details regarding the potential port remain in the dark. In the meantime, Switch 2 users who have been hoping for Monster Hunters Wilds to grace their screens will have to remain cautiously optimistic. Keeping the game’s launch woes in the back of one’s mind is essential, just to keep expectations in check. Because of its launch (among other changes), Monster Hunter Wilds was one of the most disappointing games of 2025 for some when it should have been one of the first big hits of the year. Hopefully, 2026 will mark the beginning of a new chapter for the game.
