Pokemon Fan Art Reimagines the Creatures as Air Ships

A Pokemon fan online has reimagined what several creatures would look like if they were air ships. These redesigns take Pokemon designs from different Generations, putting a completely fresh spin on them while still retaining the spirit of the originals.

After 30 years, Pokemon remains one of the most popular franchises in the world. Its dedicated community has always been known for its incredible fan art, and at this point, it takes something really great to stand out from the crowd. It’s cool to see how fans harness their unique talents to give their own takes on designs from the series. Redesigns of older Pokemon are always popular, as there’s something novel about seeing different artists’ takes on how they could look in other circumstances.

I Have Played All Pokemon Games, And These Are The Best Pokemon By Generation

With nine generations of Pokemon games and over 1,000 critters in the Pokedex, I list the best 3 Pokemon of each generation after playing every game.

These Pokemon Air Ships Are Incredible

Over on Reddit, user KosukeSukeP shared their Pokemon redesigns, which imagine what Pelipper, Sigilyph, Skarmory, Ceruledge, and Claydol would look like as giant air ships. Both Pelipper and the two versions of Claydol look pretty close to their original designs, and are immediately recognizable. The other trio take a more transformative approach, with sharper designs that give them a dangerous edge. Each redesign still manages to capture the essence of the original Pokemon, which is an impressive feat given how different some of them are.

KosukeSukeP’s style is extremely distinctive, elevating some of the best Pokemon designs with their own flair. The highlight is Pelipper, which opens up at the bottom to drop Pikachu and Squirtle, who are floating down to the ground with balloons attached to their backs. While this appears to be a fun detail, it actually helps to give the piece a sense of scale, revealing just how big this Pelipper air ship is. Other fans voiced their approval for the artist’s redesigns in the thread, with positive comparisons to both Final Fantasy and MapleStory.

What is particularly interesting about these designs is that they don’t take inspiration from the most iconic Pokemon from the franchise, nor do they hone in on one particular generation. They incorporate Pokemon from Generations 2, 3, 5, and 9, showing that there’s plenty to be added to both the old and the new. A lot of fan art is focused on particularly iconic Pokemon, and it makes sense: they’re the most popular among the community, so they receive the most artwork. But it’s always cool to see underappreciated Pokemon get some love, too.

Across Pokemon GO, TCG, Pokopia, and the recently released Pokemon Champions, there’s a lot for fans of the franchise to enjoy at the moment. It is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and The Pokemon Company is not missing the opportunity to mark the huge milestone with style. However, fans will have to wait a little longer for the release of Pokemon Generation 10, with Winds and Waves confirmed for a 2027 release. While it’s sad that the 30th anniversary won’t coincide with Generation 10’s launch, it’s better that Game Freak gets all the time it needs to ensure the games are the best they can be.
